The Age of Machines Empty The Age of Machines

Post by Murdoch Tue May 29, 2012 7:42 am

As you may have guessed, this is a Sci-Fi RP that I am starting here. I know that I said I wasn't going to start any more, but this idea has been whirling around my head for a while, and I just have to get rid of it before I explode!

So here's the situation (and I'll try and keep it short); This is an RP based on the Transformers Universe, but set several hundred years in an alternate future where the Autobots and Decepticons are still fighting furiously over the fate of their race and themselves.
When the Autobots and Decepticons first arrived one hundred and fifty years ago, they were small in number; only six or seven on either side, waging a guerrilla war on each other and their enemies allies. This escalated; as the Autobots gained the friendship of the USA, the UK and a number of other countries, the Decepticons were infiltrating other powers like China, Russia, North Korea and several countries in the Middle East. More Transformers landed, escalating the fight further, and pretty soon an all-out war was being waged between two factions; the Autobot-led Western Allies - or simply The Allies for short - and the Decepticon-controlled Dominant Powers. The Earth was slowly transformed by the conflict into a wasteland of burning buildings, craters and battlefields as not even the major cities were safe from attack.

About thirty years into the conflict, Optimus Prime led his best soldiers - Bumblebee, Ratchet, Jazz, Ironhide, Hot Rod and the rest - into the Decepticon stronghold in the middle of Russia in an effort to end the war by 'cutting off the head'. The cataclysmic struggle that ensued between the Decepticon and Autobot elite leveled the facility and killed all involved. The only high-ranking members that survived were Ultra-Magnus and Starscream...but the war waged on. Eventually, even those two were killed in battle and there was a lull in the fighting...but not for long.

Only a year later, a new breed of leaders emerged, and led their troops into battle once again, and this time...the war intensified. Both sides began unrestricted attacks on enemy-controlled cities and factories, killing the soldiers and civilians supporting the other side. Generations lived and died knowing only war, and only sixty years after the beginning, the atmosphere became choked with rubble and smoke. The civilian populations now live in a small number of heavily fortified fortresses, self-sufficient cities that provide what can be called life to the beleaguered women and children hiding inside while their men are conscripted into the forces to fight. Resources are few, and everyone has their allotted rations and no more. The fighting, once mobile and varied, has now stagnated into a bitter war of attrition, centered along the north/west divide of Europe. Everything north of France is controlled by the Dominant Powers, everything south by The Allies. Fierce fighting rages day and night down what is known as "The Fractured Zone," millions, perhaps billions of soldiers and Transformers fighting as hard as they can. Despite the constant death, the war has reached a stalemate.

    That's where you come in.

Here's the deal; you can be anybody you want. Civilians (remember that only women and children are civilians, and even then only the ones that have other skills; women are now conscripted into the armies too, but not as many as men), soldiers, even transformers. However, I want no Godmodding and absolutely no power-playing. If I see any of that, I will give you a warning. If you continue to do so, I will literally drop a space-bridge on you. If everybody does it - as unlikely as that is - Rocks Will Fall and Everybody Will Die.
I want everybody to join as Autobots or Autobot-allied soldiers. The aim of this RP is to end the war in the Autobots favour. Whether we succeed or not...that's a whole 'nother matter.
One more thing: Death is likely. You will not finish with the same characters that you start with. This is war, and people will die. If your character dies, you can create a new one to come back in. To start off with, though, we'll all start as part of a squad/battalion and see where we go from there.
One more thing: Although human soldiers will have fought Transformers before and have weapons capable of fighting them do NOT make it easy. If it's just you against a transformer with a gun bigger than your house, chances are that you would die if you tried to fight it. Be realistic (as realistic as you can be when fighting a giant robot).

Now. I will be controlling several NPC's to guide us on our journey, but they will have only occasional appearances. You can create and control NPC's too, and if you have any story ideas, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I'll put my characters bio up as soon as I know that there's interest for this.

One More Thing (seriously this time).
I call dibs on the Intelligence Officer. Razz

Ooc: I'm dumb... What's the scout again? Faith obviously gets first dibs on the techie but if she picks something else, I'd like that role. I'm useless in war, too, and you can probably tell from the Halo rp I really really suck at it, but I like the idea of a transformer roleplay (Yes, I'd be a transformer character) so I thought I'd join anyway with your permission and perhaps help.

Post by Murdoch Fri Jun 01, 2012 2:37 pm

Ok, here's a run down of what each term means, just for you guys Smile

The Leader: Obvious; he directs the troops, assigns tasks and delegates if s/he deems it necessary. This role was filled by Optimus Prime and Megatron/Galvatron of the Autobots/Decepticons respectively. They usually have about 6 weapons or accessories (For instance, a Tank may have a shield instead of a 6th weapon).

The Lieutenant: They are the second in command. They usually take control when the leaders are occupied, or if the group splits up (Ultra Magnus and Starscream).

The Bruiser: Is used to deal as much damage as possible as quickly as possible (Grimlock, Cyclonus). They tend to have seven or eight weapons.

The "Tank": They are used to shield the other members of the team, soaking up as much damage as possible before retreating (Grimlock, Devastator). They usually have six or seven weapons.

The Scout: The quick, nippy guy who goes ahead to scout an area, set traps and gather intel. In a fight, he usually sets up shop somewhere remote and out of the way, and uses a rifle or indirect fire weapon (like a mortar) to harass the flanks of the enemy (Blur, Thundercracker); they tend to fight with skill and finesse, rather than the Bruisers brute force approach. Usually has three weapons, possibly including a cloaking device or a jetpack.

The Weapons-Master: The heavy weapons specialist, these are the go-to guys for any heavy artillery. They don't carry many weapons (four or five) but they tend to be heavier weapons than the other robots (or multi-purpose weapons) (Ironhide, Shockwave).

The Spy: The intelligence and communications officer, they handle anything even remotely intel-based, formulating plans and compiling known information. They tend to have smaller robots to help them out and serve as agents (Blaster, Soundwave). They also tend to carry four or five weapons, only one of which is of the heavy variety.

The Strategist: This role can overlap, but they tend to bring everything together and come up with the overall plan, listening to reports and suggestions from The Spy and The Scout, and present the final plan to the leader (Ultra Magnus, Shockwave/Soundwave). They tend to have three or four weapons on them.

The Techie: Exactly what it says. They are the technical support, the hackers and repairmen...anything technology related, including science and research (Jetfire, Soundwave). Tends to carry three weapons AND a variety of tech-related equipment.

    Deep sigh Master Mu.

I was thinking of the soldier scout role, but was wondering what the hero is? -le thanks-

Name: Falda (no last name is given; she herself doesn’t know it and doesn’t really care)
    Commonly used nicknames: N/A
    Age: 22
    Sex: Female

    Species: Human.
Skin colour: Lightly tanned skin with hints of freckles, although not overtly obvious.
Tattoos: The one tattoo Falda has on her body is that of a prowling tiger on the left side of her ribcage below her armpit, where she was once hit by a bullet and has a scar.
    Height: 5’4
Build: Falda is of an average build: really, by no means petite, with strong arms and legs . She’s a pretty fit individual, but not one to take pride in how she looks. She gets her body from her need to move. Some notable features she possesses physically are her high cheekbones and long, slender fingers. She has a wicked right hook
Weight: She weighs something around 120 lbs, the last time she checked.
Hair (colour/style): Falda has a gorgeous mess of a blond mane. Now, I hope you’re not thinking of that ridiculous platinum-blond. No, more something along the lines of a deep gold colour with natural highlights. Hair is styled in choppy layers and let down loosely, hanging a little ways past her shoulder blades.
Eyes: An icy blue, which, along with some of her other features, show her Icelandic origins.

    Hat: Isn’t much into accessorizing.
Shades/glasses: Has a nice pair of shades she wears on sunny days for practical purposes.
Jewelry/piercings: She has multitudes of piercings in each ear that aren’t all too overbearing (except that tragus piercing may be a little bit much.)
Coat/Jacket: She favours the simple and usually just wears a nicely-fitted leather jacket.
Top: A regular ol’ black tank top.
Bottom: Falda has never been one for wearing anything but jeans, but lately has gone into a phase of wearing leather pants. In theory, and on most people, they look ridiculous, but Falda can never be ridiculous.
Shoes: Really the only pop of colour in her outfit, Falda loves wearing some sort of scarlet coloured shoe, usually a boot that goes a bit above the ankle, no heel.

    Relationship status: Single.
    Sexuality: Straight cis-female.
Personality: Falda is a strong-willed and often uncompromising individual. Although she is reasonable and nobody can say she isn’t, her stubbornness sometimes clouds her judgement and makes it a little bit hard to deal with her. Falda presents herself with a tough exterior and a no-nonsense attitude but she has a soft heart and will oftentimes find ways to help out those around her, taking a particular joy in doing so with animals and children. Has an innate distrust for men and women she views as adults, which can make her seem all the more menacing sometimes.
Hobbies: She doesn’t tend to concern herself with much anything else but the job at hand, although her love for anything that gives her an adrenaline rush, ranging from rollercoasters to skydiving, can be considered somewhat of a hobby.
Background/secret: Falda grew up in a little community on the outskirts of Iceland as an orphan, where she lived with a man who was something of a hermit. Cut off from the world, she was given a brutal reality check when an American spy mission went haywire and her mentor, the hermit Run, as killed. One of the American spies was sympathetic toward the little 11 year old’s plight and took her back to the States, where the girl was raised amongst spies until she became an American spy herself at age 18. Now, Falda has ties cut off from the American government but still holds the spy who rescued her, Amanda, dear and communicates with her constantly.
Powers: She is “just a human” but is one intelligent individual and has a honed sense of perception, useful in many combat situations.
Preferred weapon:Falda has a taste for guns coined as “assault rifles,” loving ones such as the AK47 and the submachine Arsenal Shipka.
Anything else?: Falda does have a slight accent due to the fact she did live in Iceland and spoke only Icelandic and Gaelic until she was 11, but she is fluent now in English and is easily understood.

"The Hero" is the reckless, oftentimes brash soldier who will charge into harms way to save his/her comrades, and doesn't always consider the implications of his/her actions. Which role catches your fancy? Very Happy

And thank you ^_^ Here's my bio:

    Name: Onslaught
Age: In human years, he's about 100 years old which, in Transformer years, is the equivalent of about 22 or 23.
    Gender: Male
    Species: Transformer
    Role: The Spy

    Appearance:
    Spoiler:
Alternate Form: Onslaught can transform into a communications and support platform, or a small (ish) scout tank.

Weapons/abilities: His right hand can fold out into a gattling gun, his left hand can turn into a buzzsaw and he has a blade and an automatic rifle (that can double as a sniper rifle) slung across his back. He also has access to a pair of missile launchers.
Personality: Onslaught, despite his name, is very calm and collected, working off of logic rather than emotional responses, unless it is logical to do so. He is loyal, however, and committed in the war against the Decepticons.
    Background: Ah-ah-ah...show, don't tell. ^_^

The Reaver is a little like The Berserker; the Berserker just flies in with little to no regard to his or others safety, seeking to do as much damage as possible...the Reaver also has that aim, and also has a certain bloodlust, but his actions are more calculated, more strategic...he has little regard for other peoples safety, but his own safety is a top priority for him. And if that means saving his squad because they can protect him, he'll do that. If he was a bad guy, he'd be "The Blood Knight".

Post by Danny Mon Jun 25, 2012 2:29 pm

It's a fairly simple bio because I want to show him off in the role play.

    Name: Daniel McKarthy
    Age: 26
    Sex: Male
Tattoos: On the inside of his right bicep reading: "veni, vidi, vici"
    Height: 6'3"
Build: Considering being in the army, Danny has a strong and powerful build. He is very in shape and fairly strong. A good build.
Hair: Light brown, medium length, messy.
    Eyes: Green.

Personality: Danny can be considered quiet the sick bastard. When he gets in the mood for killing, it can sometimes be hard to stop. To be honest, he doesn't care much for the people around him as he makes it seems. At least he has the decency to put on that mask. He really just cares about himself.

    First attempt at a bio

    Name: Yuri
    Age: 24
    Sex: Male
Tattoos: Right shoulder:13 with a wreath around it.
    Height: 5'2"
Build: slightly muscular, Yuri might be on the short side, but can have surprising bouts of energy
    Hair: black, very short.
    Eyes: dark blue.

Personality:Yuri is a Russian defector, he believes less in the values of the decepticons than he does of the allies, so he defected, he thinks it better to fight for something than nothing. he also is an extremely efficient sniper, who possesses great knowledge of transformers, and can take out a minor transformer with a single, precise shot.
    role:sniper
(this is my first attempt at a role-play so it might not be that good)

Post by Murdoch Fri Jun 29, 2012 11:12 am

Sweet, we can start...and I'm sure you'll do just fine. I'm a fairly laid back DM, but if anybody gets too out of line, I have no problem killing off their character early. I'll warn you before I do that, though...killing people off is my last resort, unless they specifically ask me to kill them off for whatever reason.

But please define "Minor". I mean, if you're talking about a human-sized one or one of their scouts, fair enough...if you're talking about the grunts, who are still at least three times a humans size (probably more) a single sniper bullet is unlikely to kill them. Three or four, maybe, but not one. They are, after all, essentially giant mechs. Remember; realistic here, guys. This is war. People get hurt, people die...and you don't take out a Decepticon with one bullet, unless it's somebody like Laserbeak, Ravage or somebody similar in size to a human.

Besides that minor warning, who's ready to start?
