The Age of Machines - Page 3 Empty The Age of Machines

Post by Murdoch Tue May 29, 2012 7:42 am

    First topic message reminder :

As you may have guessed, this is a Sci-Fi RP that I am starting here. I know that I said I wasn't going to start any more, but this idea has been whirling around my head for a while, and I just have to get rid of it before I explode!

So here's the situation (and I'll try and keep it short); This is an RP based on the Transformers Universe, but set several hundred years in an alternate future where the Autobots and Decepticons are still fighting furiously over the fate of their race and themselves.
When the Autobots and Decepticons first arrived one hundred and fifty years ago, they were small in number; only six or seven on either side, waging a guerrilla war on each other and their enemies allies. This escalated; as the Autobots gained the friendship of the USA, the UK and a number of other countries, the Decepticons were infiltrating other powers like China, Russia, North Korea and several countries in the Middle East. More Transformers landed, escalating the fight further, and pretty soon an all-out war was being waged between two factions; the Autobot-led Western Allies - or simply The Allies for short - and the Decepticon-controlled Dominant Powers. The Earth was slowly transformed by the conflict into a wasteland of burning buildings, craters and battlefields as not even the major cities were safe from attack.

About thirty years into the conflict, Optimus Prime led his best soldiers - Bumblebee, Ratchet, Jazz, Ironhide, Hot Rod and the rest - into the Decepticon stronghold in the middle of Russia in an effort to end the war by 'cutting off the head'. The cataclysmic struggle that ensued between the Decepticon and Autobot elite leveled the facility and killed all involved. The only high-ranking members that survived were Ultra-Magnus and Starscream...but the war waged on. Eventually, even those two were killed in battle and there was a lull in the fighting...but not for long.

Only a year later, a new breed of leaders emerged, and led their troops into battle once again, and this time...the war intensified. Both sides began unrestricted attacks on enemy-controlled cities and factories, killing the soldiers and civilians supporting the other side. Generations lived and died knowing only war, and only sixty years after the beginning, the atmosphere became choked with rubble and smoke. The civilian populations now live in a small number of heavily fortified fortresses, self-sufficient cities that provide what can be called life to the beleaguered women and children hiding inside while their men are conscripted into the forces to fight. Resources are few, and everyone has their allotted rations and no more. The fighting, once mobile and varied, has now stagnated into a bitter war of attrition, centered along the north/west divide of Europe. Everything north of France is controlled by the Dominant Powers, everything south by The Allies. Fierce fighting rages day and night down what is known as "The Fractured Zone," millions, perhaps billions of soldiers and Transformers fighting as hard as they can. Despite the constant death, the war has reached a stalemate.

    That's where you come in.

Here's the deal; you can be anybody you want. Civilians (remember that only women and children are civilians, and even then only the ones that have other skills; women are now conscripted into the armies too, but not as many as men), soldiers, even transformers. However, I want no Godmodding and absolutely no power-playing. If I see any of that, I will give you a warning. If you continue to do so, I will literally drop a space-bridge on you. If everybody does it - as unlikely as that is - Rocks Will Fall and Everybody Will Die.
I want everybody to join as Autobots or Autobot-allied soldiers. The aim of this RP is to end the war in the Autobots favour. Whether we succeed or not...that's a whole 'nother matter.
One more thing: Death is likely. You will not finish with the same characters that you start with. This is war, and people will die. If your character dies, you can create a new one to come back in. To start off with, though, we'll all start as part of a squad/battalion and see where we go from there.
One more thing: Although human soldiers will have fought Transformers before and have weapons capable of fighting them do NOT make it easy. If it's just you against a transformer with a gun bigger than your house, chances are that you would die if you tried to fight it. Be realistic (as realistic as you can be when fighting a giant robot).

Now. I will be controlling several NPC's to guide us on our journey, but they will have only occasional appearances. You can create and control NPC's too, and if you have any story ideas, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I'll put my characters bio up as soon as I know that there's interest for this.

One More Thing (seriously this time).

    OOC: Ack, sorry!

BIC: Falda could barely keep a smile from her face. This Commander Brechkov was quite the character, living up to talk and to army legends. A force to contend with. Of course, she couldn't help feeling a little smug that she had been chosen for this team.

"Sir yes sir!" Falda says with the utmost seriousness. Because really, she screws things up now, she can kiss her military career with this side good bye. And really, she's been getting quite comfortable here. Although Falda itched to ask what this meeting was about, she waited. Patience is a virtue she had been told many, many times. It was a virtue she lacked quite often.

Ooc - actually Murdoch, if you wouldn't mind, I currently don't have much to say, so feel free to carry on (assuming that you haven't posted because you were waiting on me. If you weren't, then disregard this message). ^.^

[[I've just been busy...just a heads up, I'll be gone from Friday to Sunday evening up at the Festival of History]]

Brechkov surveys the squad one more time, then nods once and points at the map. His finger traces along the red/blue divide as he starts talking. "The Decepticons are pressing us hard. We've lost a mile of land in the last week all along the frontier to some new kind of weapon...an energy beam that not only destroys buildings but paralyses any human nearby. We've managed to reverse engineer the protection they give to their soldiers, and are now about to launch a counter attack...but we need to attack the key positions first."

His finger points to the yellow flag. "This is your objective. It's an old factory facility from the years prior to the war, and it's the only thing stopping us from recapturing the positions on either side of it. Its artillery positions and heavy ordinance nests are the only thing preventing a general advance on the trenches to either side, as it lies atop a large cliff...it is almost impossible for a large force to sneak up on it, due to its superior position...which is where you come in."

He straightens. "Your mission is to infiltrate the base and disable its heavy defences; energy shields, heavy machine guns, artillery, AA missiles...anything you can find. Unfortunately, our reconnaissance has all been destroyed, so we have next to no idea what you will find in there. For that reason, we shall be providing a little extra back-up to get you in and out of there...and once you've disabled the defences, release a flare and the general attack will begin. Until then, you're on your own. Any questions?"

Daniel stood much more casual in the conference room (though he still stood like a soldier). The mission description was short, the intel, useless; Daniel stood there distraught. He leaned against the table overlooking the map. His hands rested on the edge of the table, his eyes focused on the single flag marking our objection. It's basically a suicide mission," Daniel thought to himself. "Sir, if I may... This mission looks deadly. Nothing for the average soldier I agree, but you must have more intel. The layout for the building, possible locations for weapons to be resting, even an estimate number of the soldiers, anything sir," Daniel asked. He took this moment to look up at Brechkov.

It was a crazy mission. One Daniel would definatley take. Any chance of getting ride of these blasted aliens Danny would take, but he wanted to know enough information as he could. He was a killer, not a mad man (which were two different people if you asked Daniel). "Anything thing would be appreciated, Sir. I understand reconnaissance was destroyed, but I want to make sure I have all the information before running into battle." Daniel stood up again and sighed, his eyes moving back to the map. This would, by no means, be an easy mission.

One deep, long breath. That's all it takes to get Falda focused, get her mind in the game. Outwardly she makes not a move but inwardly... now that's a totally different story. As Brechkov was describing the mission Falda's eyes narrowed more and more. They all knew what sort of mission this was. Not entirely hopeless, no, that'd be false. But not exactly something your average ol' soldier or spy would ever get stuck with. A little smile tugged at the corners of Falda's lips, listening.

No intel? A little backup? With the short mission description, Falda couldn't help but to start getting excited. This was the sort of stuff she lived for: heading into missions people didn't expect you to get out of alive. At first, in the very beginning, it had hurt, thinking this meant people considered her expendable. But she had learned oh, had she learned, that everybody is expendable, in the reality of things. It was the way the world worked now wasn't it?

As multitudes of thoughts assaulted her brain, Falda kept her stance and even a stoic face. Yes, this was the perfect mission. Perhaps a fool's mission, but the perfect mission for her.

Brechkov looks at Daniel sharply. "Do you not think," he says, calmly and coldly, "that if there was more intelligence, I would give it to you?" He doesn't wait for Daniel to answer that rhetorical question, instead moving on swiftly. "No. There is no more intel. It's a fortress, but a small force can sneak in undetected and bring their defences down. We do have an extra squadmember to help you out, though." He looks up, and nods. The NCO at the door raps sharply on it, and it opens to reveal a figure, about six or seven feet tall, made entirely of metal. He is basically a metal human, coloured a dark blue, with a single black screen for his eyes. Where his mouth should be is a hexagonal plate of armour, covering his optical systems. The Autobot strides through the door, before snapping a sharp salute.
"Overload reporting for duty, sir!" His voice isn't what you'd expect; it's like a humans, and has a thick northern England accent. The stresses on the "s's" and the "R's" give it a more aggressive tone of voice than may be otherwise intended.

"At ease, Overload," Brechkov says simply. Overload relaxes, putting his arms behind his back as he scans the room. "Overload will accompany you into the base. He is here representing your second piece of backup, who will get you in and out of fortress. You won't have heard of him, but he is our chief intelligence and infiltration officer here on the front, and he specialises in stealth and strategy. Overload here is best at sabotage, and has a direct link to Onslaught, your transportation, so be very, very welcoming to him."

Overload looks around, and salutes the squad. "It is an honour to be working with you all," he says sharply, before returning to 'at ease'.

Daniel keeps his eyes on the map as Brechkov speaks to him in a sharper tone. Something he had been expecting, but he had to be sure. Thought it wasn't until the doors opened that Danny stopped examining the map. He was shocked, had mixed feelings. He wanted these blasted aliens gone, and one was going to help us do that. Daniel smiled, a bit ironic for the robot to help, but it worked for Daniel's cause so he's not complaining.

"And you," Daniel replies saluting the robot before focusing back on the map. The area around our target seemed isolated enough, but the target itself wasn't as easy. It would be hard enough making in the building without getting seen, never mind overpowering it. Then again, this is what the Autobot was suppose to do; stealth was one of it's traits. Daniel had never directly worked with an Autobot before, so he was rather excited for his mission now.

OOC: sorry about that guys I just totally forgot about anonymatrix, and I've been busy, any way:

Yuri stands silent throughout all these events, but wonders what use a sniper is within a fortress, but dismisses the thought. This would be his first time working with auto-bots, and his second working with other soldiers on this side.
