March to Talabheim - Page 3 Empty March to Talabheim

Post by Banather Fri Feb 11, 2011 4:20 pm

    First topic message reminder :

The Old World is a dangerous place to live in. Humanity is always threatened, from all sides. Everywhere one goes, he or she faces horrors unknown, from bandits, to the Undead, and even Daemons. There are even legends of a race of vicious Rat-Men, called Skaven, who live in underground tunnels all throughout the world.

The Empire is the largest nation of Men. It is ruled by the Emperor, who is elected, and rules unto death. The current Emperor is a valiant and noble man, named Karl Franz. The Empire is divided into several provinces, each ruled by an Elector Count, who, in the even of the emperor's death, become candidates for his successor. This is a nation which is ruled by religion. There is a god for every aspect of existence, such as Morr, the god of the Dead, Ulric, the god of Winter, War, and Wolves, or Sigmar, the first Emperor, and patron god of the Empire.

Even within the Emperor's borders, humans are not the only people to exist. Elves live in the forests, and Dwarfs in the mountains, both of which maintain good, or at least tolerant, relations with the Humans. There are others, such as the Vampire Counts of Silvania, or the Beastmen of Drakwald Forest, which threaten the very existence of humanity.

    -------------

We are all part of a caravan, travelling towards the city of Talabheim. You may be a warrior, priest, or simple peasant folk. Human, Elf, or Dwarf. It doesn't matter. What matters is why are you in this caravan, what do you expect to find in the city we make our way to? Are you running from something? Or someone? Will you tell others, or keep your secrets? It's up to you.

The technology level in this setting is akin to the Renaissance era, particularly Germany. So basic firearms exist, but they are expensive and typically reserved for the military. Swords and other weapons are much more common. Magic also exists, for those who are trained to wield it. A human can only learn to control one of the Winds of Magic, such as Fire, Alchemy, Shadow, Death, Life or Light.

Here is a map of the Empire (click it to view the entire thing). Talabheim, our destination, is on the western border of Talabecland, in the center of the Empire.
    Spoiler:

Banather - Konrad Falkenheim, Warrior Priest of Sigmar
    Mercy - Arabel, Gypsy
    Allen - Tarell Diederich, Rogue/Assassin
    Skye - Nadya Purrum, Gypsy
Capri - Felixa Cassius, Tilean Noble?
Murdoch - Varkash, Disguised Chaos Sorcerer

Current time/conditions: Dusk, with a few clouds and a slight breeze. It's early summer.

The Priest had given the signal to halt, the caravan stopped. He had asked what he was doing in the Empire.

'I am a questing hopeful of the Grail Knights of Bretonnia. I am afraid I cannot reveal the specifics of why I am here. The Empire is foreign to me i am afraid, and I needed to know if you knew the way to talabheim'

The branches brush past Luc [Pronounced "Luke"] as he glides noislessly through the forest, down a small dirt track. Luc is tall, about 6 feet tall, with dark brown hair that is cut short beneath a wide-brimmed, squat-topped brown hat. A branch tugs at it, and he puts his hand up to steady it; it's a good hat, and he doesn't want it pulled off of his head. He looks around twenty-two, with a kind of cross between rugged and smooth good looks, his face only slightly angular. His dark brown eyes appear to glitter with some unknown shimmer, as if he knows something that others don't, and that he's laughing at their ignorance.

He is dressed in a forest-green cotton longcoat that comes down to his knees with golden-bronze buttons lining the outside of his torso, running down the length of the coat, and a white cotton long-sleeved tunic beneath that, visible as the coat is unbuttoned. His breeches are the same shade of green as the coat, a simple long-legged cotton affair, the top being covered in a wide, light green sash held on with a same-shade belt with a faded gold belt-buckle. His boots are black leather, slightly worn and scuffed, and his clothes have a few patches of mud and grass. His boots are thick and sturdy, good for walking and sneaking. They are good boots.

He holds in his hand a longbow that, instead of a solid and stable shape, appears to be a flickering shaft of dark shadow. He has to concentrate on it slightly to keep it corporeal, it being a conjuration of his own mind; his expertise with the Lore of Shadows was prepared for a moment like this; he needs to convince the upcoming convoy that he can be trusted.
A large, eight-foot quarterstaff is slung over his back, tipped with a large black blade of forged magic metal, the other end tipped with an iron counterweight sharpened to a deadly spike.

He creeps through the woods towards the road, flanked by two or three Northern Marauders, each making more noise than the silent glide of Luc but less noise than an imperial soldier would make; these southerners couldn't move silently if they wanted to, and the roads make them easy to predict.
He approaches the edge of the road, and listens intently, casting his mind out for a greater hearing range...ah. Just coming into range now, they appear to be talking to someone on the road. He can't hear the carts, so they appear to have stopped. He'll have to time this perfectly if he's going to get this right.

"Talabheim is just down this road, the way you came from. This caravan happens to be headed there as well. As long as you do not cause trouble, you are welcome to remain with us."

With that, Konrad began leading the caravan onwards again.

Aymarr just nodded in agreement, he may as well follow them, it would seem they knew the way.

He hears the wagons start rolling again, and nods to himself. They should be coming round the corner any moment now...time to get to work.
Luc signals to the two marauders following him, and breaks out of the forest as if running. The two Marauders follow after him, growling and snarling in feigned rage. Perhaps it isn't feigned; he wanted this to be realistic, and if he knows Garsharak, he would love to take this opportunity to kill him.
He'll just have to make sure that he's too good.

Luc hits the deck and rolls, losing his hat along the way. He twists as he rolls, coming up in a crouch to face the marauders, drawing his shadow-bowstring back. He releases it, and a dark arrow of flickering shadow leaps from the bow, streaking through the air to bury itself in the first marauders chest. A second arrow follows it, plowing into the second marauders head and they both hit the ground with a crash. Soon, several more marauders emerge from the forest from all around him, about eight in total, and Luc curses. Well, he did want it to be realistic.

He dispells the bow, drawing his bladed quarterstaff, holding it out in front of him as he slowly turns in a circle to watch the marauders carefully. He can hear the wagons clearly now; they should be coming round the corner in a few moments.

As Aymarr rode along side the wagon, a great deal of noise could be heard from around the next bend.

'Priest, I will ride on ahead. I would like to know what is causing all of that disturbance.'

With a light kick, his steed galloped faster. What he saw next was no shorter than chilling. Chaos Marauders. He had come across these barbaric men in his ventures in the northlands, he hardly expected to see them in the Empire! It was a descent sized rabble, numbering around eight, and it would seem they were after someone! Aymarr unsheathed his sword and readied his shield.
His horse let out a quick burst of speed towards the group, the furthest on the left noticed him first and let out a fearsome warcry, honoring their dark gods. He, along with two others, broke off from the group to face down Aymarr. The weapons they wielded were knarled, bloodstained and the most fearsome things you could imagine.
When he got close enough he let out a swing, the steel of his sword slicing the neck of the first chaos whelp. The other two attempted to halt his advancement. One of them let out a thunderous blow with his axe, only to be deflected off of Aymarr's shield. The marauder was met with a clean stab threw the chest.
While Aymarr was distracted, the last of the three dug his flesh hooks into his horse. It let out a pained yelp, and sent Aymarr crashing to the ground. before he could pick himself off of the ground, the Marauder was overtop him with a long, jagged knife. just before he could lunge it into his flesh, Aymarr let out a powerfull swing with his shield, knocking the man off of him.
Aymarr sprung to his feet as quickly as he could in his plate armour, he looked back towards the caravan and shouted

March to Talabheim - Page 3 Empty Re: March to Talabheim

Felixa jumped, startled as she was ripped from her reverie. She heard the muffled noises from up ahead, the shouts and the war cries, the noises of slashing weapons. What in the hell is going on? Something in her stomach sank then. No, it couldn't be the band of thieves. How could they know where she was?

Standing and jumping up on the railing to look out ahead of the caravan, she couldn't yet see anything. Except for the gypsy in front of her. The gypsy's red hair hung around her face as she stared into the woods. Felixa wondered what her reaction would be.

Felixa's hand went to her thigh, ready to pull the knife out if necessary. But she must not lose this this blade. No, it may not cause much damage, but it was the only weapon on her since the thieves had taken the rest. Well, aside from her magic; but she would wait until the appropriate time to use it. Then she heard it.

    "Chaos,"

So it wasn't the thieves. A part of herself was happy about that...another...not so much. They were still in danger. Felixa's expression turned fierce, eyes narrowing and mouth set into a straight line. Thoughts buzzed through her brain, remembering all that her father had taught her when she was growing up in Tilea. He had persuaded her to learn self defense, being a trained soldier at the time. Felixa was stronger than she looked (as were many of the women in her hometowm), even though she was female. She hated stereotypes. Being skilled in archery and having no issues wielding a sword and shield, she was quite good at combat. But there was one problem. She didn't have either of those weapons. And she didn't know if she was any match for these 'beings'.

As the anxiety balled up in her abdomen, she readied herself, mind set.

Luc's head whips around at the sound of a warhorse whinnying, and the warcry of one of the Marauders. Jesus...sometimes the Knights are just as bad as the Marauders when it comes to subtlety! Could have tried taking one of them out before announcing himself!
Still, he's grateful for the distraction- as well as the confirmation that the caravan is indeed headed this way- and he can now focus on the other five. Eight Marauders, he could have handled- albeit with a little difficulty- and five will be a cakewalk, especially with his quarterstaff.

One of the marauders facing him bellows out a scream of rage, and a bellowed "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!" as he charges, barbed sword swinging in a wild arc. Lucs' quarterstaff flicks the blade to the outside and, stepping in, he slides his hand along the shaft to send the other end smashing into the Marauders stomach. He lowers it slightly before sending it crashing upwards into the mans skull, sending him toppling backwards, twisting on the spot to face the direction he just came from, sliding his hands down again to send the blade straight into the second Marauders stomach. The Marauder doubles over, coughing, before collapsing to the floor.
Luc only just manages to withdraw the blade and bring it round quickly enough to catch the third Marauders blade, sending it towards the inside of the body and away from Luc. He could have deflected it with the portion in between his two hands, but that's risky; much better to do it with a part of the staff quite a way away from the hands...besides, the quarterstaff gives a range advantage; best to use it!

Bringing the quarterstaff's other end round, he sweeps the Marauders leg from under him, spinning the quarterstaff so that the blade comes slicing down on the Marauders chest. He hears a noise behind him, and spins on the spot in time to deflect the axe-stroke from the fourth Marauder with the iron counterweight, striking the Marauder across the back with the remaining length. He takes a few steps back hurriedly, watching the last two- the one he struck growling angrily- warily. They should be easy, but the enemy you underestimate is the one that kills you. At least the other three- or one, as the case may be- are now occupied by the Knight.

    ooc:

Just so you know, that is a totally realistic use of a bladed quarterstaff. XD.

    "Chaos"

A fire ignited in Konrad's eyes. His lips began to move quickly, as he uttered a series of prayers to Sigmar. The hammer in his hand began to glow with a powerful golden light, along with the comet pendant around his neck. Everything he had been taught, since the day he was accepted as an Initiate in the Cult of Sigmar, was geared towards instances such as these. This is what he was trained for, and his Faith would see him through it.

The priest rounded the corner, just as his prayer reached it's crescendo. A cry of "FOR SIGMAR!" erupted from his lungs, as he raised his left hand. A brilliant ball of golden light shot forth from his raised hand, taking the form of a Twin-Tailed Comet. The holy missile rocketed through the air, catching the marauder that had been standing over the knight, squarely in the chest. The northerner flew back, a scorched hole blown through his torso.

"FOR THE EMPEROR!" He bellowed, raising his warhammer over his head. The two remaining Heretics were facing off against a man Konrad did not recognize. One of them turned to face him. With a ferocious swing of his hammer, he caught the marauder directly in the face, caving in his skull. With that, the priest turned to face the last foe, holding his hammer in front of him, waiting for his enemy to make the first move.

Luc glances behind him as he senses an enormous amount of power being activated from behind him, and just in time, too; a massive blast of energy rockets through the air, throwing down one Marauder, then another one blasts past him- he has to jump backwards out of the way- and into the first-to-last marauder. He sprawls head over heels through the air, narrowly missing the second one, who staggers, caught off balance. Luc seizes the opportunity, leaping forward and swinging his staff in a broad arc, neatly separating the marauders head from his shoulders, sending his body toppling to the ground. He spins his quarterstaff back around and to a standstill so that his blade is pointed at the ground and the remainder of the staff is behind his right arm and across his back. Turning around, he walks almost casually through the new battlefield, searching for something intently, ignoring the Knight and the Warrior Priest.

Picking his way through the bodies and weapons that lie scattered in the clearing, he studies the ground intently, even crouching down to shift some of the dead bodies.

The Magic was stirring inside Felixa. She could feel it. The caravan swayed as it continued moving slowly forward. What she had just seen made her eyes widen, but she didn't lose that determined stare. So the Priest had Powers also, she'd known. His aura had said that much.

Not wanting to wait around anymore, Felixa leaped off the caravan railing and into the dirt road and patches of sparse grass. Inhaling deeply, she began to moving quickly, but slyly, forward, hand by the knife the whole while. But she had something else in mind.

There were dead bodies all around, the Priest was still standing were he had been after he'd used his Magic. But, as she plucked through the minds of the men on the ground to make sure they were actually dead, she sensed one there were two live beings in the clearing.

There. As she stood in the cover of the forest by the clearing, a tall man crouching over a couple of the dead Marauders could be seen. Felixa could tell that he wasn't one of them, but her Powers picked up a weird feeling about his mind and aura. She desperately wanted to send out probing entities that would give her answers from his thoughts, but Felixa knew he would notice. People always did. Not many knew how to shut her out, but there have been a few that could. Alas, she didn't want to give away her hiding place yet...that is...if he hasn't already noticed. Narrowing her gold-green eyes, she pulled herself closer to the tree she was clutched to. Soundlessly.

OOC: Skye, pretty much the caravan was going along smoothly, everyone got introduced, and Murdoch is beginning to infiltrate the caravan. A couple of us just finished killing some Chaos Marauders, which is where we are now.

Konrad looked at the new man, who was busy looking through the bodies. He didn't want to interrupt him, until he had an idea of his intent. Anyone who pitted themselves against the forces of Chaos couldn't be all bad, but the way he'd handled his weapon, and the cold confidence he'd shown, was something strange in itself. Even a battle hardened veteran would have shown at least some sign of fear in the face of so many enemies.

The priest walked over to the fallen knight, and offered him his hand.

Luc shifts another body out of the way with his hands, heaving it aside like a...well, like a dead weight! He surveys the ground intently, cursing slightly as he presumably doesn't find what he's searching for.

"Blood and ashes, where did I leave it?" He mutters irritably. He knows it was around here a moment ago, and he doesn't want to leave without it. He kicks another body out of the way, this one dressed in wolf pelt and leather belt, and his eyes light up momentarily. Stooping down, he retrieves something from the dust and pats it down thoroughly. When he's satisfied, he flicks it out in front of him before placing the wide-brimmed hat back on his head. It's a good hat.

Sparing not even another glance for the fallen marauders- save for a couple of stabs here and there with his counterweight, just to ensure that they're really dead- he spins on his heel to approach the Knight and the Warrior Priest.
"About bloody time you showed up, mates!" he says. "You faired a helluva lot better than the other Priest...he was decorating the forest floor last I saw him..."

BIC- Aymarr slung his shield over his shoulder and wiped the blood from his sword with a ratty cloth he had in his bag. He then sheathed his sword.

'We may have fared better, but the Savages still killed my horse' He said frustrated. he walked over to his horse and started collecting Items of good use from its coarpse. Then it dawned on Aymarr.

Luc shrugs, slinging his bladed staff over his shoulders, keeping it balanced with his right hand. "A good half a mile, probably more. I tell ya, these Blighters can sure run for a long time; must have jumped at least six fallen trees and several ditches to get here. With all that blasted muscle, you'd think they'd be slow!" He lets out a single, sharp laugh.
"These Light-blinded fools found me as I tried to pass them. Not sure how, but they spotted me and chased me. Maybe I got too close to the battlefield and gave myself away, maybe a rabbit made a noise and they turned to look. I don't know."

I frown as I come out of a Shadow, I wasn't necesarrily on good terms with anyone in the forest, let alone cities. I had decided to back out from this fight.

I look at the heavily armoured men and I crinkle my nose in disgust, "Your armor is much too heavy... Havent you heard of traveling light? I can hear you from a mile away."

Luc turns his head fractionally to regard the newly-arrived girl. His eyes run over her once, a quick, appraising glance. Not bad, he thinks.
"Oh, I agree. I despise heavy armour. However," he chuckles, "They are travelling on the road, with wagons. I doubt stealth is their main priority. In this situation, heavy armour is better; you never know when bandits will jump out at you."

"I guess I've always been more aloof." I say, watching the man and taking a few steps forward. My bare feet sink into the ground, the bangles around my ankles jingle lightly and I remove the hood of my cape, my hair tumbling around my shoulders.

He shakes his head, treating her to a small wink and his most dazzling smile; girls have gone weak at the knees from that smile. Ok, not all of them, but a lot. "Oh, I bet you are, sweety." He chuckles. "I might not wear armour, but that doesn't mean I don't see the benefit. No use in being fast if your blows can't hurt the foe, right? That's why I'm glad it was only these Light-blasted fools that chased me instead of the Warriors I saw prowling around. In any case, they are still around, and I would very much like to be elsewhere, as would you lot, I suspect." He tilts his head as he regards the priest. Hopefully, he won't demand an immediate attack; the last group got slaughtered!

    These are Warriors of Chaos:

They are EXTREMELY tough and skilled fighters, able to outclass several Imperial soldiers at once. They are all but the ELITE, lol. Pray you don't meet any Knights of Chaos, which is basically an Elite Warrior of Chaos on an extremely big, armoured and spiked warhorse. Warriors are already about 8 feet tall...they didn't need any help! XD

Ooc: Adding to Murdochs point, for those of you who dont play Warhammer, the Chaos warriors are MUCH tougher to kill than the guys we just fought. it would probably take two, or even three of us to take out one of them, let alone an entire mob of them.
And If we ever ran into an exalted hero or a chaos lord, just freakin run lol Razz

BIC: Aymarr turned to the man
'Wait, you saw Chaos warriors? I prayed this was just a stray rabble, but you're lucky to still be among the living if you ran into Chaos warriors unaided'
Aymarr's group had come across these lumbering bahemoths before, increadibly tough to kill. The men he had just cut down were mere meat shields compared to the heavily armoured warriors of the dark gods. Even running into one was troublesome, even one could cut down a swath of Imperial State troops. But they rarely ever traveled solo. This was bad.

He snorts. "I ran into them? It's not like I was looking for them! I saw them, I ran as fast as I could! Say what you want, but Warriors of Chaos? Not the fastest things in the world." He gives a grim chuckle. "But they may well be here soon. I suggest we get moving. I counted a good twenty marauders, not including these ones, and at least ten Warriors. I highly doubt that's the only troops...I guarantee that they have a warlord, and from the state of the Priest I saw, a fairly powerful Sorcerer."

He winks and smiles at me and I chuckle lightly, "Might need to try a little harder then that, love."

I turn to the other warrior who had come and agree with the winker.

"Yes, let's get a move on. I will put a protection spell over the carvan, keep us under the radar for a while while we move... Shall I.. Dispose of the bodies?" I ask, moving the hair away from my face gently.

Warrior Priest. Skye muttered a curse under her breath and slipped from the cart, landing on the dry dirt with a thud. Her smile faded as she pulled her hood over her head with quick steps towards the others. "Bloody warrior priest" she muttered quickly as she realized she was unable to use magic in front of him.
She kept herself silent as she listened to the others speak of Chaos warriors. Were they near? She pursed her lips as she listened, sorting the reason they were the topic. They were nightmares, of which most people decided to keep off topic.
"Chaos Warriors? Are they near?" She asked, stepping closer to the others. If they were near and had something on any one of them, all would be dead by sunrise.
