Dear Daddy,
It’s been 11 years,
A long 11 years at that,
I miss you
So much.
You left me here
With no dad.
You didn’t get to see me
Graduate from Kindergarten.
You didn’t get to witness me
Becoming a Christian,
And falling.
Dad, you weren’t there
To protect me when I needed it,
To tell me that everything would be alright,
That those girls were lying,
To tell me that you wouldn’t let anything happen to me.
Daddy, I’m a Junior in High School,
It’s almost time to graduate.
You won’t get to see your little girl
Receive that diploma,
To throw up her cap.
Daddy, you won’t be there
To send me off to my first day of college,
So I can start pursuing my dreams
To become a teacher.
My future husband won’t be able to ask you
For permission
To marry me,
Tyler will have to fill that role, like he has many others.
Dad, you’ll never be grandpa.
You won’t get to see your grandchildren.
Daddy, I think about this each day
More and more,
But then I remember,
You’re up in Heaven
Watching over me, mom and Tyler.
And I can’t wait
‘til I’m up there with you,
So we can reminisce about the times
We never got to share.
Love,
Your apple without a stem. <3
