    First topic message reminder :

    Who is Death?

Many say that death is a metaphor, others say it's a simile, it can take many forms, one may say it has wings made with skeletal bones, another may say its an animal (a rat or some other disease ridden animal) but most say its a skeletal figure with hourglass in hand and a scythe in the other hand. Whoever is touched by the figure dies instantly and goes to the afterlife to be judged...

You are dead, You're surrounded by blackness hearing nothing until a voice suddenly pierces the silence. "We've been expecting you. Let's make a deal."

The last thing you remember was dying. You wake up sensing you aren't alone. "Right on time," the voice pauses and the silence stretches on for an uncomfortable moment. "You died, remember?" They laugh. "I see some potential in you, would you like to work for me? Another chance at life?" As they await your answer, you begin to shake as your mind is flooded simultaneously with worry and relief. For whatever reason, you look past the lack of details and agree. A cold hand grabs your shoulder and now you're at the exact spot where you died, however, no one has any memory of your momentary death. You quickly examine your body, everything's there and you feel fine, actually, you feel better than you ever have. That's when you see it, a luminescent cuff and attached chain around your wrist, you follow it to the hand of the other person. Your horror isn't over yet, the lethal scythe slung over their shoulder like an ordinary accessory leaves you speechless.

It turns out you have made a deal with a Reaper. They fill you in on all of the chilling details, including the part about being bound to them forever...or until you decide it's time to die again. Reapers special duty is to safely guide the dead on to the afterlife. They also have another job, protecting the dead from evil spirits trying to devour them for power. You'll be doing this for an eternity, there are benefits and drawbacks to that. Unless you're severely injured by an evil spirit, you will never die. You appear to be human and you can return to your family, or wherever you found happiness. However, you will have to see your friends and loved ones mature and die while you stay the same. Also, your very soul is bound to the Reaper you made a contract with, should you ever try to leave them, they have the power to kill you. If you ever grow tired of chasing spirits, betraying the Reaper is a good way to end the contract and move on to the afterlife.

This is your new life, as a Reaper-in-training. You are assigned to a certain squad codenamed "Se7en Sins" which is made up of 7 reapers-in training led by a Head Reaper. You can carry about your daily routine, but at any moment, you may have to send a soul on or fight with a spirit trying to kill you. Enjoy it. However, the Pantheon (a group of 5 gods and goddesses) plan to stop you at a moments notice with the purpose of creating a perfect utopia and to oversee death in their own way. Will you stop the Pantheon and keep the world in balance?

Reaper Abilities (see The Powers of A Reaper for More Details)
-Immortality: A reaper cannot be killed by normal means like humans. They can only be killed by evil spirits, or another Reaper.

-Ghost Steps: In order to do their jobs without being noticed by humans, Reapers have the ability to step into another spirit world on earth. Everything looks the same, but instead of humans walking around, it's wandering souls and evil spirits. This is where they find both to send them on. Apprentices have to be careful, their power can be sensed by spirits and staying too long would mean getting swarmed by the enemy.

-Individual Power: all Reapers have two specialized abilities, one is something physical and the other is a mental/magical one.

-Grave Dance: His is a final move all Reapers do to send spirits on. The act depends on the individual, it could be anything, a phrase or something more intricate. Apprentices get to make up their own after serving long enough.

-Homeward Bound: this is just a quick slice in thin air, or any other place, to open a portal back up to the Reaper world, where actualized Reapers call home.

    The Powers Of A Reaper:

A Reaper has a small amount of power to help protect itself and souls. The main weapon is it's Scythe which is usually, (When the reaper is in their human form, see next section) in the form of a necklace or other garment. A Reaper also has the power to cause seemingly impossible things to happen. Some have caused things from pianos falling on people to trucks exploding. A reaper must use this power with caution and kill only those who are on their list. And Finally a Reaper has the innate ability to heal most wounds, excluding mortal wounds on a person who is Listed.

    Familiars:

Your familiar is your guide. It is a spirit that teaches a human how to do the work of a Reaper. They take the forms of an animal and can telepathically communicate with their Reaper.

As Danny continued to walk down the street, Nodin took flight and soared above him. People passed by him without a second glance, not really acknowledging his presence, but aware of his existence. Danny turned from the street into a public park with a smaller crowd. Nodin followed diligently (as per usual).

Before long, Danny started to fade. His body became more transparent with every step. Nodin's body began to fade simultaneously. In a matter of seconds, Danny was gone from the mortal world. The park stayed empty. Any humans looking at Danny as he vanished would either ignore what they saw, or forget their surroundings and daze out. When Danny returned to the "bridge ", he noticed familiar figures. The bridge is the spirit world between Heaven and Hell. It's a place where the souls of mortals come to get judged. It had always been that way.

Of course more often than not, the souls would be damned to Hell, forced to spend the rest of eternity paying for their sins. And like many before him, a blue eyed man was sent to his personal damnation. There are different councils in which people are judged, but the one Danny walked into was the one he was currently more familiar with. He knew two Reapers on the council (the others he didn't know personally). Of course he didn't know Alric and Pagan too well either; but out of the ones there, those two he knew.

Danny was just a Reaper in training. He didn't have as much authority, knowledge, or experience as these Reapers, but that never stopped him from performing to the best of his abilities. Not knowing what was going on, Danny stood at an awkward distance. "Am I even allowed to be here?" Danny asked to Nodin via thought as the hawk landed on his shoulder.

She sighs as Talia's shadow begins to slowly show and she appears. Pagan places her hand on Talia's neck, almost for comfort and Pagan locks eyes with Alric.

"Regardless of whether the others are too soft.. they're learning Pagan. Much like you did." He says and she rolls her eyes. With a sigh, she keeps her harsh comments to herself as he speaks again.

"What of the newbies? Have you considered my offer of being one of the trainers?"

Pagan turns to Alric with a small shrug, "I suppose I will take that offer."

A reaper in training -- Danny she believed the name was -- appears at the bridge and she turns her harsh stare towards him. Thoughts buzzed through her head, she wasn't much of a teacher... In fact, she hated a lot of the reapers in training, not to mention everyone else. The only person she actually enjoyed was Alric, she had a soft spot for him.

But of course, she'd never truly show that.

A bright light appears near her hand as her scythe appears.

Alric was quite pleased that she accepted his offer. They needed their best Reapers to take on the task of training the new ones. No good would come from having the amateur Reapers teaching instead of the more experienced ones. Despite her somewhat cold attitude he knew that she would do just fine as a teacher if given the correct trainee.

As Pagan's familiar began to appear next to Pagan, Alric felt movement on his wrist. Azapiel could sense that Talia was close. However he quieted her with a small thought. He didn't feel that right now was the time for a social meeting between the two of them.

"Good, I need experienced Reapers on the field. Especially with the losses we've been having as of late.." He trailed off as his gaze settled upon one of the Reapers-in-training, a young one named Danny, who appeared on the bridge in front of them.

Alric had been keeping this matter low and quiet among the Reapers. Only Pagan and a few other very high ranking Reapers knew. The evil spirits were getting stronger and they were getting smarter. They weren't attacking the stronger members but instead were beginning to focus on taking out the weaker ones.

Although Pagan greeted the young Reaper with a glare, Alric greeted him with a somewhat kind smile.
"Ah, greetings young one. Danny, correct?"
He shifted his gaze briefly towards the his companion as her scythe appeared in her hand.
    "Are you getting adjusted?"

Danny stood there, quiet for a moment. "Apparently," Nodin said in differently. Pagan and Alric both turned and starred at Danny. He blinked dazed for a second. "Uh... Yes. Yes sir," Danny smiled as he walked towards the two. Suddenly, Pagan revealed her scythe and held her ground.

Confused, he stood there, thinking he did something wrong. "Is this a bad time?" Danny said only half joking. He starred between Alric and Pagan. "Sir...?" Nodin flew off his shoulder and circled around him from above.

As Skyann wondered through the streets of a village,  unseen by the human eye, she looked at all the mortals around her. Her eyes catching every detail of their appearance and her surrounding.
Suddenly her eyes fixated on a small girl with light blond hair that was being chased by a lung boy. Both around the ages of 5 and 6. As she looked at them, she slowed down to a stop. Memories of her childhood she thought were lost found their way into her mind's eye.
A gentle nudge on her back brought Skyann back to the present, breaking her pleasant yet painful daydream.
As she turned her head over her right shoulder, her eyes followed her familiar's movements. Cruentas, a powerful black stallion, moved his weight to his hind legs and reared twice, but only raised his front feet a few inches above ground.
Skyann nodded and mounted the beast, understanding that it was time to go back. She pulled the hood of a black leather jacket over her head, casting a shadow upon her face, creating an illusion of a black hole. Skyann didn't wear her traditional Reaper's cloak when she visited the mortal world. They couldn't see her therefore there was no need of hiding the monster she has become many years ago.
With that, Cruentas wasted no time was he broke into a canter as their body slowly fading, leaving the mortal world.
As they appeared on the 'bridge', the stallion slowed down to a walk, sensing the presence of three reapers.

Pagan runs her tongue across her teeth for a moment as two Reapers in training. She sighs quietly, as she feels a soul tugging closer to death and she turns to Alric.

"A soul is pulling away from it's body..."

Her eyes narrow on Danny for a moment, "I suppose I will be training you... Come."

She says, turning on her heel and she slices her scythe through the air, a tear appears and she opens the portal, revealing a dark, city street and a man sitting on the side of the road, a bloodied handkerchief in his hand, an empty bottle in the other.

"Say nothing, do nothing. Watch." She says to Danny, her voice emotionless, harsh, she pulls the hood over her head and steps through the portal.

Danny gulped as Pagan spoke to him. He would be lying if he said Pagan didn't scare him. She was brutal and took her job very seriously. She cut a hole in the air and walked through the portal. He starred at Alric for a moment before following Pagan's path. "Nodin!" Danny called down to his bird. On command, he landed on Danny's shoulder as he walked through the portal.

In the mortal world, the two reapers stood beside a pitiful excuse for a man. The poor soul didn't have a chance. Following command, Danny stood in silence and watched. Pagan was dressed in her black cloak hovering around the man. Saying her presence was ominous would be an understatement.

Alric watched as Pagan observed the two Reapers-in-training. He knew who she was going to choose before she chose him. It was something in the way she looked at him. She knew that he could learn most from her methods.
She turned to speak to him.

"I feel it. Go." He replied with a nod of his head. She spoke to Danny and took him with her as he had predicted she would. He wanted to say more but she had already opened up a portal. The young man followed her silently.

He turned his attention to the other Reaper-in-training who had arrived at the bridge. He knew very little about her beyond her name. Skyann.
She had caught the attention of the Head Reapers for her cold demeanor.

"You, come here." he said as he brought his hand out and motioned for her to come to where he was stood.
"Leave Cruentas, he will not be needed now." he turned and waited for her to join him.

Skyann locked eyes with the Head Reaper at his command. She gracefully dismounted the hell beast and trailed her hand up his neck, down his forehead to his muzzle as she looked into his red fiery eyes and softly whispered "remaneant mi gaurdian, revertar."

With that, she turned on her heal and started to make her way towards Alric. Each step she took was surprisingly silent for her boots were heavy and decorated with metal. The hood still covered her face, and for a split seconded she wondered for how long did she live- if she can call her state living- without revealing her face.

Cruentas nodded his head gently at her soft voice and his body started to fade until he was gone.
As she took her last step, she didn't break her gaze and just stood there. A meter away from him.

The man began to cough, his fragile body shaking and Pagan stands, her dark eyes examining him and the man stops, his eyes slowly inching towards Pagan.

He stumbles back in fear, for the closer you are to death, the more visible the Reaper's true form becomes.

Pagan takes a step towards the man, "Thomas Horwell," She says, her voice soft, sweet as she reaches out a hand.

He shakes his head, "No..NO, I will not."

Pagan drops her hand slowly, "I do not wish to make this more difficult than it is."

The man coughs violently, blood appearing where his hand went to cover his mouth.

"Please, I have a wife... Kids! Not today..."

Pagan frowned, "It's nothing personal, love... Just... the way life is."

She raised her scythe and a bright white light appeared as she swung it.

The sound of a soul ripping from a body is unforgettable, a terrifying ghostly shriek that could send shivers down anyone's spine. You could almost feel the pain and agony shoot through the air as it happens, but Pagan had gotten used to it.

The man's body laid limp on the curb and Pagan sighs, turning to Danny.

"Come..." Her voice stoic, emotionless as she once again opens the portal towards the Bridge.

Alric waited until he knew that the young Reaper-in-training was stood more or less next to him. Although she was quiet, she was never going to be quiet enough. There was no way to sneak up on him. Not only were his senses sharp but his control over sound allowed him to magnify even the slightest of little bumps. The mere vibration of a person's foot touching the ground could be made to sound like a gunshot if he wanted it to.

He shifted a little bit and brought his hands up to hook his thumbs into his pockets, just above where his hip armor rested on his thighs.
His eyes gazed over the licking flames and the surrounding darkness of the middle-point between heaven and hell.

"I've chosen to personally train you." He said simply as he turned his head to look at her briefly. There was movement at his wrist and he glanced down for a moment to look at Azapiel. She was growing restless.

"As a Head Reaper I only go after souls that have a large chance of being attacked. The chances of you becoming engaged in a fight you cannot handle are quite high." he continued while returning his hand to where it had been before. The evil spirits were only getting stronger as the decades went past.

"Are you prepared to follow my instruction, Skyann?" he asked her while turning his head to look at her again. He could see nothing through the darkness of her hood but this did not bother him. She was not the first Reaper to wear their hood the way she was wearing it.

"I can handle whatever comes my way. I am not afraid of any great powers. Not even your own." Skyann replied. She was much older than him and she experienced the life of a Aurelian angel once, before falling. Nothing could really frighten her. Besides her Father.

"I feel honoured that the Head Reaper himself chose to train such a lowlife like me personally" her reply sarcastic and  her voice ever so gentle that it's melodic beauty can mesmerise and suffocate her victims.
"if you keep looking you might get sucked in. Plus you won't find what you're looking for."

When she spoke Alric's jaw tightened. This was exactly why he had been chosen to train her as opposed to a less experienced Reaper. The higher-ups knew that he would be able to put up with her.
"Your attitude is only going to get you killed, child." He said in a quiet tone as he turned to walk back towards the bridge.

He chose not to reply to her other sarcastic statements. There was no need for him to. She was quite blatantly arrogant. She overestimated her own powers and underestimated his. It almost amused him how obviously she did this.
She may have been older but there was little reasoning behind the arrogance she was showing in front of the Head Reaper.

"Come. There is a soul waiting for us to pass it on." he said as he brought his hand out and tore a rift into the spirit world, much the way Pagan had done. However he could open such a portal without the use of his scythe.

The human they were going to retrieve was that of a wealthy businessman. One who had fallen victim to taking too many pills to help ease the stress of his work. Rich, greedy, stuck up, and a pig. He was the perfect target for a hungry spirit.

"yet I am still alive. In a matter of speaking" she said quietly, more to herself than to anyone, turned and slowly followed the Head Reaper through the portal. Just like any other being on earth, heaven and hell, he mistook her sarcastic remarks, her defence mechanism for arrogance. She had no reason to open up to Alric, nor anyone else. And why should she?

As they entered the spirit world she could feel her scythe- in the form of jewellery- pulse at the anticipation of killing yet another soul and dragging- excuse me- guiding it to hell.

Danny watched. He said his plea, she spat her denial. Nothing else really. He followed her quietly. "Uh... Pagan," he asked tentatively. "What is this teaching me exactly?" Though he was taller than her, he still followed her like a little child. "Not to be rude or anything, but is it not obvious that a Reaper would guide souls?"

"Not to be rude or anything, but is it not obvious that a Reaper would guide souls?"

Pagan stopped in her tracks, she had been taught that at one point, but she had never thought of it like so. Her body hunches as she stops herself, her hand gripping onto her scythe for a moment and the tension in her knuckles made them turn white.

This boy had a point, but she was in no mood to deal with it. With a scowl she turns to him, pulling her hood down.

"If you care so much about the petty humans then sure, why don't you guide them to their final resting place. Most of them are going to be burned in a Hellhole for eternity anyway."

She spits, knowing this was no way to treat a student, but she didn't know how to handle anyone trying to talk logically to her about sparing the souls feelings, or guiding them. She had no idea how to handle anyone with care anymore.

It was then she realized how extremely heartless she had become over the many years of being a reaper. She stares at the boy, her eyes becoming soft for a moment, and she turns away before he could see anymore.

She speaks to him, and he stands there. He meant no disrespect and had not expected her to react the way she did; with emotion. "If I care so much about petty humans..." he repeated the phrase to himself. "I don't know about care, but it is our job after all." Danny stared at her intensely. She responded with... Well he wasn't exactly sure. She turned around before Danny could analyze her. She turned on the stop and headed out. Danny sighed and followed.

"Do you think all Reapers turn out like this?" Danny asked Nodin, who didn't really give him an answer. "Perhaps," he spoke softly. "What a help you are," Danny spoke out loud to him, only partly joking. Nodin seemed to take pride in Danny's annoyance. After a while, Danny jogged up to Pagan and walked beside her. "Pagan, where are we heading to now?" The curiosity in his voice was clear. Just by listening to him you could tell he was still in training.
