    Revelation of Vis

On the planet Earth, The species that has come to call itself the dominant race were faced with the most unusual conflict that destroyed their beliefs on the law that governed their thought on nature and what limited conscience that their primal brethren possessed. The year was 2013, one year after the supposed end of the world which was revealed to be only a new comet to pass within our view, nothing more than a Mayan event that was superimposed as a doomsday event and when the day came most were overjoyed with disappointment. The year following was just as normal as the last with an increase of pollution, deforestation and hype of climate change yet to come. Within the small Canadian town of Carrot River, the new year’s summer had similar attributed to an old fashioned style of American living with crime low and cars cheep. Fathers and sons tossed various objects around to the amusement of the dog while mothers and daughters gossiped about the best looking styles of hair while grooming the cat. When it came time on that particular day to end the festivities and enjoy the traditional customary banquet that is “supper” a broadcast on the home television halted the attention of the humbled family. A news report that a group of a random assortment of animals attacked and killed a police officer in the neighbouring town of Nipiwan, the family’s attention was draw only for a second before shrugging of the abnormality then returning to their meal. Conversation over the death sparked the fathers anger, not wanting to lose his appetite he demanded the topic switch or end altogether which shortly after hearing the dogs moans and growls and shrieks the father throws his napkin to the plate uttering curses about the dog, thinking it’s a coyote he opens a cabinet and retrieves a large 12 gauge pump action shotgun with the plastic feature imitating a wooden appearance and pocketful of shells with his soap covered dirt hands then a long black flashlight with small ridges down the handle. Equipping his coat he rips the door open then loosens the grip for it to shut slowly as his family cautiously watches him disappear into the dusk.
The mother begins to stack the utensils in the dishwasher as the son retreats to the television and the daughter to the couch with a gossip magazine. The calm atmosphere is dismissed when the sound of an enormous bang, they all snap at the point of origin to assess what had transpired and over the ringing in their ears they heard the terrified screaming of the father, “ Holy Fuck!” another shot rang out and another, the daughter cried in horror and curled up and the son shouted towards the door “Dad?” with worried curiosity, the mother dropped her plates and against her will ran out the door to locate the father. The son and daughter grabbed each other and ran to the small window in the living room covered by cheap curtains to hide the chip of missing wood sealed by duct tape. They peered out onto the porch with nothing but the lamp light on and the broken collar of the dog on the steps hearing the mothers cries to the husband to reveal his location and his status but was met only with silence. The mother turned slowly towards the window, as if she knew her children would be staring at her. A snap in the bush and she turned her head again looking at nothing. Silence broke as she murmured the name of the father, “Stanley?”. Silence. She returned to her position and glared at the children with fear and within the split second the dog leaped out and ripped the mother from her rooted position on the ground throwing her into the dusk that the father had left for. The children fell back at the astonishment of what had happened, the thought of what they just saw had not registered in their brains yet, fearfully they ran to the entrance griping the door frame screaming “Mom!” and were met by muffled screams over the sound of clothing being torn and just as there was, all sound stopped. Silence.

    Part 2

The daughter was sobbing, all the while trying to envoke a response from her brother. "Is she dead?" the daughter asked, her voice barely understandible. Mabey thats why the brother didn't reply, or he was too focused on what to do next he shut himself off from outside distractions. "Always think ahead" his fathers words echoed through his lips. "What?" murmered the girl and within an instant Marcus snapped back into reality. "Okay, we call uncle Gus and tell him whats happened". Vanessa twisted around quickly and walked to the phone, she picked up the reciver and paused for a moment, "Why don't we call the Cops!". "Think about it!" Marcus replied as if he knew she was going to say that, "It will take them thirty minutes to get out here and Gus lives just mile from us." These kids wouldnt look it but they were tough. There outward appearance did not do justice for there behavioral attributes. Vanessa tilted her head back to the phone and began to dial, her crying had detirerated to nothing more than just sniviling pouts of air from her lungs. Vanessa looked like one of those stereotypic cheerleaders and Marcus the personified the Jock in every way, but they were far more different on the inside. Both hunted and traped with there father every chance they could, there favorite bands were all Rock'n'roll, and both knew every part inside a Tractor Combine. As Vanessa calmly recited the events to her uncle, Marcus sprinted to the gun cabnet, he pulled out his fathers M1 Garand and 5 clips already loaded. It was WWII rifle his father had gotten from his father. "He's on his way" Vanessa replied without the slightest bit of sorrow in her voice. She had already assumed the worst, that her parents were dead and gone forever, and in an instant like her brother was reciting her fathers words pacing back and forth in steps of 2 awaiting the responce of her brother. "Good, get your coat on and grab the other flashlight" he said as he slid the clip into the top of the rifle. Vanessa runs to the closet and grabs her metal studed leather coat with the words METALCHICK patched into the back and grabs a large round flashlight. Marcus grabs his leather jacket and slips it on whilst still maintaing a firm grip on the gun, easing one arm in at a time. As Vanessa zipped up her coat and clicked on the small spotlight. Marcus uses the barrel of the rifle to push the rusty screen door open. Vanessa right behind him they slowly make there way outside the door, there vission in sync with each other. Their hunting training with there father kicked in, they had to remain calm and quiet, but too much was buzzing around in there head. What happened to our dog?, is he rabid?, was it are dog or a coyote?, are mom and dad still alive?, when will uncle gus get here?, and if this is our dog would we kill him? Only now when they wandered outside did the actualy think about what was going on, they didn't have time to think they just reacted. "Why the hell are we even out here, we should wait for uncle!" Vanessa replied sternly. "And If mom and dad are wounded, they will need help, and we also need to find out what the fuck is wrong with Pete, I don't want to take a chance if he is rabbid or wrong in the head and mabey we can even save him" Marcus aswered with a silent wisper. "Well couldnt we jus-", a snap in the bush silenced Vanessa and she draws her flashlight to the sound as Marcus points his rifle in the same direction. A inhuman growl emits from the darkness amongst the trees mixed with moans and gurgling. "Pete" Marcus answers back in a slowed voice. The cruching of leaves in the form of footsteps begin to make Vanessa shiver and slowly out of the darkness appears a sight that makes Vanessa gasp and Marcus nearly drop his gun. For what they see in front of them envokes a terror only something evil could do. And it was evil. By God was it evil.

    Part 3

"Oh my god!" replied Vanessa as she geared he head back. Standing in front of them, driping with thick, red death was there dog. Before Marcus could outline his dog Pete lunged forward with a gurgled snarl. "Bang!", Marcus instinctivly pulled the trigger without hesitation. Pete took the hit and tipped towards the ground but after what should have been a cripiling wound, the dog riped itself back up and countinued with its attack "Bang!" Marcus fired another round at Petes front right leg blowing it clean off at the joint and still only a finch from the mongrel as it ran without pain towards its former friends. Marcus just stood there with Vanessa right behind them unable to pull the trigger for he was to griped by fear, "This is it, were going too die" he thought. There was another shot only this one came from the right striking the dog in the head and putting it into the ground, there it layed lifeless and dead. Gus stood there with his rifle still trained on the dog whilst still moving towards towards his kin. "Yall right there?" Gus inquired, sweat rolling down his nose as he had been running since the phone call. Vanessa and Marcus just stood there shaken. Gus turned around to the voice of his wife Meg who had been following too. "There here! Call the station and get these kids back too the house" Gus replied with a stern voice. He then began to walk into the forest to find the parents. Meg threw a blanket around the two and escorted them back to the house whilst assuring them not to worry over and over again. Gus gripped hiis gun tight and made his way deeper into the forest until he had come across something he had dreaded the most. There his brother and wife lay there there bodies mangled and torn, before he could scan there injurys he turned away to disguted and mortified to look. "Jesus" Gus mumbled as he brought his arm to his face trying to prevent his gag reflex and tears welled in his eyes the he turned his sight to Pete. Gus just looked at the scene, he was in too much shock of the horror that had happened to notice another horror right behind him. As the Meg reached the house and opened the door ushering in her kin through the house , the sound of a painfull scream echoed in the forest and was cut short of an inhuman roar. Meg jolted to the door slaming it shut and blocking it with the coat rack beside the entrance and scrambled back towards the phone. Marcus and Vanessa stood up only to have Meg push them back down in there seats ordering them to "Stay here and don't move" as she picked up the phone and dialed the well known three numbers. Marcus and Vanessa slowly turned there head towards the door expecting Gus to bust through it but insted it was a slow stomping sound that grew louder with each step. "Vanessa shouted "Gus" towards the door with Meg pausing in her speach also drawn to the door. There was a quiet ambient sound with only the loud thuds and the barley noticible talking off the 911 operator until the loud thumps stoped and Meg, still fixed on the door replied "were at the Alder house on Blacktail road get here now I think theres someone trying to kill us!" and the warming assurence of an officer on his way prompted Meg to thank them with a slow distracted tone and hung up the phone with a erie motion. At first the three of them heard nothing but as they focused on the door, the sound of a feint panting and gurgling the same as what Pete was doing only this was much noticeably larger and deadly. They all held there breath as the noise stopped, they were too scared to move yet some feeling of saftey still lingered seeing the the door was blocke and help was on the way. They thought everything will be alright. What happened next couldnt have proved them more wrong.

    Part 4

A large claw smashed through the door with ease, as a ferocious beast roared with blood curdling scream and the smell of death was thick with it. Marcus and Meg grabbed Vanessa and booked it straight for the door Marcus looked back only once to see the same red eyes glowing in the darkness, but these were bigger. “Get to the truck!” Marcus shouted. “Where are the keys?” Vanessa screamed as she opened the door. Meg tossed them to Vanessa as she slid in the door and Vanessa followed stepping in half-way jamming the key into the ignition, turning her head to find her brother who was scanning the house for any sign of the beast, as his eyes flicked back and forth his gaze catches the shiny barrel of Gus’s rifle laying in the leaves he moves towards it grabbing it then pausing to inspect what slippery feeling was on the grip. It was too dark to tell but his attention is now focused on the silence which had now clogged his hearing with suspense. What happened to the intruder? He thought to himself for a split second on what would happen next but he was quickly interrupted as a hulking tower of flesh and teeth charged its way around the side of the house. Marcus aimed the rifle and fired a round at the thing. A small splash of blood spurted out from the creature but did nothing to impede its attack. Marcus sprints up and dashes towards the truck with the beast in hot pursuit, he jumps into the back as Vanessa puts the gas on and the clutch out. The truck speeds off leaving that hulking brute behind but as Marcus thinks to himself, trying to grasp the reality of the past events he slowly tilts his head up watching as a pair of red eyes slowly grow smaller and smaller until they were out of sight. He rests his head on the butt of the rifle as his thoughts grow smaller and smaller until in his mind they were out of sight.

As his eyelids slowly rise he sees that night has become day, he is no longer in the truck but instead lying in a bed, the sheets bright enough to reflect the morning sun, he thinks to himself if he’s dead, if this is heaven? “No, No I’m pretty sure that privilege is not deserving of me”. He smells the air; it’s familiar yet distant, in the back of his mind like something long forgotten buried deep in his head with a purpose for being remembered as his eyes come into focus he realizes that his bed is in a field of green grass with blue skies and perfect clouds to match. He is still in his clothes torn and stained with blood and sweat. He sits up and slides his legs towards the side of the bed and sits up, all his senses trying to reboot whilst his drowsiness lingers, Up he looks at the yellow sun, it’s odd that he isn’t blinded by its brightness he looks down again off in the distance is a tree with its leaves in full bloom all reaching into the air like roots of life and color. The wind slowly passes him faintly but noticeable, it feels good, cool and needed but as he loses himself to the breeze his eyes snap onto a lone figure beside the tree. He wipes his face to reveal that his clothes are flawless and his body repaired. The blood and sweat are absent as he inspects his body, noticing his bed is also gone as if it was never there, he glances back towards the tree and the figure under it. Still there he slowly walks towards the scene. The sky begins to shift in color, no longer blue but purple? The fluffy clouds now ripped and torn across the sky, as another foot steps towards the ground he feels a hard thump. He looks down to a hard earth, dust and rocks replace the green luscious grass? It’s hard and dead, his face goes from calm to disturbed as he slowly tilts his head up. The tree with its beautiful leaves now empty branches leaving an eerie obelisk, like a shell of something once living forever frozen in death but the one figure beside the tree is still there. His pace quickens and slowly his vision now identifies the lone figure, it’s a woman her hair is green but not dyed a natural blend. She is wearing an odd dress, like it’s a part of her. Not like clothing. The smell of burnt wood now thickens as the wind begins to stir in a rage his lungs struggling to find a breath but with what little air he has left he calls out with his last breath: What is this? The wind stops dead all sound is mute, the awful smell is gone but the land remains the same. The woman slowly shits her body towards Marcus, his eyes starting to blur he wipes them in order to see and as he pulls his fists away from his eyes he sees her face. It’s beyond words for him to describe, its attractive and yet dominant. He feels a parentage feeling towards her his eyes still scanning. Her face is free from age and her figure is flawless but something is wrong he struggles to find what is not right with her until his vision stops at her eyes. They are red. He shrieks in pain as he stares into her gaze and falls to the ground clutching his head. Visions burning themselves into his mind he see’s humans being slaughtered and butchered by animals of all sorts, birds are attacking the elderly, mice swarming little children and dogs tearing there masters to pieces. As he reaches for her to stop she smiles and reaches for his face covering it until when he can no longer see her. “NO!” Marcus shouts as his head rips itself from the rifles end. Its night and he’s bouncing in the back of the truck his head slowly switching from side to side oblivious to his surroundings. “What the hell?” he says as he takes in a deep breath and slowly he leans back resting his head against the rear window. “That was too real, oh God that was messed”. As he reconciles his dream which is still perfectly crisp in his mind he squeezes his fingers on a soft thread in between his fingers. Puzzled he pulls the strings toward his eyesight and brings them towards his face. Its green hair, adrenaline pumps to his body giving him a cold shiver and alerting his body to an upright position. The hair then begins to glow amber like it’s on fire and then disintegrates to a glowing ash blowing out of his hand and into the wind. Shock overcomes his face as he feels light headed slowly he braces himself for the floor of the truck as he feints and again his mind cuts out leaving only darkness and silence. “No, not again, please not again”.
