Setting- Well obviously its AVATAR, but I’ll be a bit more specific.
This has nothing to do with the film- the characters are different although the setting and stuff. Let’s say this is an alternate universe. The time scale is set 6 years before the events that happened in Avatar (in the alternate universe).
Welcome to Pandora a moon of the gas giant Polyphemus. Polyphemus is the second of three gas giants orbiting the star Alpha Centauri A (ACA) in the Alpha Centauri System. Slightly smaller and denser than Jupiter, Polyphemus has no rings and fourteen moons, the most notable beingPandora. Originally, its name was Coeus.

Discovered by the first interstellar expedition in2129, Pandora has been the single most interesting thing to happen to the human race in hundreds of years. The news services love to run clips of the wild scenery on Pandora, and its bizarre flora and fauna.
To the cultures of Earth, Pandora is mysterious, primal and terrifying. Even from orbit the scope of florae present on the surface indicates a planet brimming with life. Other than the color, the trees resemble those of Earth. They have the familiar trunks and branches and leaves, though due to the difference in planetary gravity, many of the shapes are strange and the proportions are greater because of the lower gravity. The trees and plant life of Pandora have formed electrochemical connections between their roots and effectively act as neurons, creating a planet-wide "brain" that has achieved sentience, which is known to the Na'vi as Eywa.
Pandora, despite being almost as large as Earth, is only a moon of the gas giant Polyphemus, which has thirteen other moons. However, due to its smaller size, its gravity is 20% less than Earth's. Due to Pandora's lower gravity, most creatures on Pandora are hexapods (six-legged). Creatures roam the air and forest canopy below, similar to Earth's animals, but on a scale several times larger. Pandora's wildlife also has bioluminescent qualities. Depending on the position of the various moons, Pandora can have two or even three moons in its sky at once. Pandora and the other moons cast large black shadows on Polyphemus.
Pandora looks like a lush paradise by Earth standards during the day, and at night virtually all life on the planet exhibits bioluminescent qualities in various shades of blue, purple and green, explaining the Na'vi's blue skin colour, which is most likely a better camouflage at night on Pandora.

The Avatar Program was initiated to improve communication with the Na’vi, the intelligent humanoid inhabitants of Pandora. Human volunteers are paired with avatars, which are artificially created human/Na’vi hybrids controlled by persona projection technology. While the human controller remains in a sleep-like state in a psionic link unit, his or her personality inhabits and completely controls a custom-made Na’vi body.
The link is total; the human believes he actually inhabits the Na’vi body, with all senses, reflexes and bodily functions fully operational. The avatar body, having been grown in an amnio tank with the help of growth accelerants, has no personality of its own and is inert (except for basic autonomous functions) when not under human control.
Each avatar is specially made using genetic information from its human controller and despite obvious differences in size and physiology is equivalent to its controller’s twin. This genetic matching is necessary to allow morphic projection to operate on the alien body; attempts to use unmatched bodies have invariably failed.
Originally part of RDA’s Na’vi outreach program instigated at the behest of Earth government authorities, the Avatar Program has moved from being a poorly-defined xenobiological experiment controlled by Earth-based bureaucrats, ivory-tower academics and populist politicians to become a tightly-managed engineering project incorporating the most advanced technology from RDA’s labs.
The unobtanium mine on Pandora (RDA ESM 01, or Resources Development Administration Extra-Solar Mine 01) is the most distant industrial operation from Earth and the only source of unobtanium so far developed.
Unobtanium ore is excavated from three open-cast pits, each located over major lodes of unobtanium detected in preliminary surveys of Pandora by specialized probe devices.
Closer inspection by an orbiting ISV revealed that there are many deposits of unobtanium on Pandora, some of which are even richer than that at ESM 01. It is expected that further exploitation of Pandora’s unobtanium deposits will eventually result in construction of further mines, with at least twenty-five potential sites already located. Plans are already underway to develop a substantial deposit within a few miles of ESM 01.
Excavation has been carried out with standard fusion-electric powered mining equipment modified with sealed operator cockpits and atmosphere filtration units. A typical mining cycle involves placing chemical charges above an ore deposit using satellite-positioned drill trucks, detonating the charges to loosen the overburden, and then removing the overburden with excavators, robodozers, and dump trucks. After the ore has been exposed it is carefully removed with excavators and trucks; if the ore is pure enough to spontaneously levitate special belt diggers feeding into covered trucks are used instead A pentagonal perimeter fence encloses the large human complex on Pandora. Major weapons towers at each apex provide heavy munitions defense against surface and air intrusions by large hostile Pandoran wildlife, while four smaller towers spaced along each side handle intrusions by smaller life forms, including burrowing attacks. A cleared thirty-meter strip wide surrounds the base, regularly patrolled by automatic plant-clearing machinery that keeps the jungle at bay through regular administration of acidic mining by-products.
Slightly more than a third of the site is taken up by the shuttle runway, VTOL pads and associated support facilities; a similar area is occupied by vehicle storage, the armor vault and light industrial plant mainly used for fabricating parts for mining equipment and ammunition for base defense.
Administrative structures, a barracks for SecOps staff, studio-style apartments for technicians and mine workers, and an airtight condominium for senior staff occupy the remainder of Hell's Gate.
Recreational facilities such as the base commissary (popularly known as Hell's Kitchen) are shared, except for an unpressurised section between the research labs and the landing zone mainly used by members of the avatar program for athletic training and field sports.
So you live in Hell’s gate, but what are you? A pilot, an Avatar driver, a miner, a marine or just a scientist.
Na’Vi
The Omaticaya Clan (Na'vi name: Omatikaya meaning "Blue Flute clan") is a Na'vi tribe of the forest. They formerly lived in a Hometree in one of Pandora's huge jungles. The Omaticaya people are led by Jake Sully (formerly Eytukan) and Mo'at, and share a deep connection with the forest. When members reach a certain age, they must performIknimaya, a rite of passage in which a young Na'vi must climb up into the Hallelujah Mountains to find an Ikran. ThroughTsaheylu, the initiate creates a life-long bond with it. Once this act is performed, the initiate is accepted by the tribe as one of the People and is allowed to carve a bow from a branch of the Hometree and may also choose a mate.
The tribe happens to live over the largest deposit of Unobtanium nearest to thehumans' settlement at Hell's Gate. This leads to conflict, as the RDA came to Pandora largely in the pursuit of Unobtanium. After negotiations fail between the humans and the Na'vi, Hometree gets destroyed, and the Omaticaya people are forced to take shelter at the Tree of Souls. It is unknown where they live since the final battle with the RDA.
While other Na'vi clans on Pandora organize themselves around carving or pottery, the Omaticaya are renowned for their brilliant textiles. Thus, the loomplays a key role in the daily life of the clan. The largest of the Omaticayan looms is more massive than a terran pipe organ. This 'mother loom' (Na'vi:mas'kit nivi sa'nok) is given a place of honor in the common area of Hometree.
The past two Toruk Maktos have been members of the clan
The Banshee Rookery is home to hundreds of Mountain Banshees. It is located high within the Hallelujah Mountains, providing protection from most predators.
In the Na'vi culture, the rookery serves an important role for Na'vi taking part in the rite of passage known as Iknimaya. To become an adult hunter, a Na'vi must bond with a Mountain Banshee. However, he or she must first climb up to the rookery. Once there, young Na'vi must choose and be chosen by a Mountain Banshee. This is a dangerous process, as Mountain Banshees will attempt to kill the Na'vi that they choose.
The Banshee Rookery may refer to one or more locations within the Hallelujah Mountains where Mountain Banshees nest.
Eywa is the guiding force and deity of Pandora and the Na'vi. The Na'vi believe that Eywa acts to keep the ecosystem of Pandora in perfect equilibrium. It is sometimes theorized by human scientists that all living things on Pandora connect to Eywa through a system of neuro-conductive antennae; this often explains why Na'vi can mount their Direhorse or Mountain Banshee steeds and ride them immediately without going through the necessary steps required to domesticate such wild animals.
Some believe that this interconnectedness, which on Earth is merely a spiritual concept, exists in a physical and tangible way on Pandora, in the form of a strange, collective psionic consciousness embedded in the planet, drawn from all Pandoran life. It is, in a way, a bit like a huge biological internet; the trees being computer servers that store information. The Na'vi can upload or download memories from it using their queuesand it can even be used for mind transfers in certain cases.
The Tree of Souls grants the Na'vi access to the psychic essences of their deceased, which is how the Na'vi communicate with their ancestors. The roots of the trees are capable of extending above the ground and connecting to the nervous system of any living thing, even humans. This is how Jake Sully's consciousness was transferred to his Avatar.
Tsaheylu is a Na'vi word meaning a bond (neural connection). This bond takes place when two creatures of Pandora connect their queues. Some instances where this bond would occur are those between a Na'vi and a Direhorse, or a Na'vi and a Mountain Banshee. However, the bond can also occur between the Na'vi and other creatures like the Thanator or the Great Leonopteryx. Almost every creature on Pandora has a queue used for Tsaheylu, although some don't have any that are noticeable.
The Na'vi connect their queues during mating to create a strong, emotional, and lifelong bond.
A Toruk Makto is a Na'vi individual who successfully manages to ride a Great Leonopteryx (Na'vi name: Toruk). There had only been five Toruk Maktos until Jake Sully became one, and using the prestige of the position he unified the Na'vi against the RDA. The previous Toruk Makto was Neytiri's great-great-grandfather, who had used the great respect given to such riders to unite the Na'vi tribes five generations before in what was described as a "time of great sorrow." Jake follows in his footsteps to unite the Na'vi against the human invaders. Toruk Makto translates as "Rider of the Last Shadow."
