    Done Lost Planet: E.D.N III

Post by Murdoch Sat Nov 27, 2010 6:10 pm

It is the year T.C. -88. Earth has been rendered useless as humanities home, the conditions becoming too hostile for any human life to survive there due to war, global warming and pollution in the year T.C. 80. A megacorporation by the name of Neo-Venus Construction (NEVEC) attempted to colonise E.D.N III, a young, earth-like planet in the grip of a brutal Ice Age. As soon as NEVEC landed on the planet, however, they discovered a beastial insectoid alien race that they named The Akrid. The Akrid are fiercely territorial and will fight any trespassers to the death to guard their land and the precious energy that they create in their bodies.

With the temperatures plummeting way past absolute zero, NEVEC had to employ its special body suits which keep the body warm enough to survive outside. The fuel used is Thermal Energy, the energy of pure heat which powers all machines on E.D.N III. The only problem is that the only source of T-energy is The Akrid, who produce it in order to keep warm themselves.

A bitter war erupted not long after NEVEC and the colonists landed between the humans and the Akrid for this precious resource. NEVEC lost, and humanity was forced into small towns and underground complexes, constantly fighting off Akrid incursions. Human casualties would always occur, and NEVEC was forced to constantly upgrade its machinery and weaponry to get enough T-energy to go around.

Their primary weapon against the monstrous Akrid? Vital Suits. Vital Suits, or V-suits, are large robots designed to keep the driver warm enough to survive and reasonably safe from Akrid attack. There are lots of different types, all suited for a different purpose.

Soon enough, however, colonists began rebelling against the harsh rule of the militaristic NEVEC and began performing hit-and-run raids on their outposts, cities and supply trains, stealing weapons and T-energy. Soon enough, they got their hands on some V-suits and began adapting them for their own usage. These colonists came to be known as Snow Pirates.

The Snow Pirates were by no means allied, however. They would fight each other just as readily as they would NEVEC, and skirmishes could break out over the smallest but of T-energy. After all, V-suits take T-energy to run. Everything does.
7 years ago, NEVEC was delivered a devastating blow. A small group of people struck out at them, ruining their plan to seize all the remaining T-energy on the planet and abandon it to its fate. Their grip was weakened severely, and thermal energy was spread throughout the planets ecosystem. The war for T-energy intensified, and soon the sheer amount of T-energy being spilled began to warm the planets ecosystem. Soon, jungles began to appear from beneath the metres-thick snow and ice, sandy wastelands came into being where before there was just tundra, and yet more Akrid appeared from the ground.

Now? Most of the planet- about two thirds- is still covered in ice, but that is slowly changing. There are lush jungles and rocky plateaus, stretching sandy deserts and rolling plains of green dotting the planets single continent. There are warm patches of ocean where life is increasing drastically, and T-energy is easier to come by in these areas. The weather is in chaos, though, meaning that even one mile can take you from blistering heat to below-zero temperatures. The war still rages on, the Snow Pirates having adapted as well as NEVEC; they are weakened, but not gone. They are fighting the Snow Pirates and Akrid, all fighting for domination on the planet. And there is another faction; when the truth came out about NEVEC’s intentions, many of their troops stayed loyal. Maintained that it was the right thing to do, that humans elsewhere who are not yet doomed need the energy as well, but many also were shocked at their commanders planned actions and defected. The Ex-NEVEC are now fighting just as hard as everyone else to restore order, to gain dominance and, most importantly, simply to survive.

    Factions:
Choose ONE. And please, act like the faction would. No suddenly defecting, ok? The pictures below are not rules on what to wear; they are suggestions as to the *kind* of thing they would wear. Ok?

    The Rounders:
Primarily Desert and Snowy Plains Pirates, they carry out guerrilla raids with expert timing and coordination. They focus on taking the enemies most valued assets, stealing whatever they can along the way. They usually operate out of stationary bases hidden in cave networks and in out-of-the-way valleys, and are known for being out for themselves, reserved and serious.
    Snow: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100323081560/lostplanet/images/0/00/Mercenary.png
    Desert/anywhere else: http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-14/lp2-waysider.html

    Snow Pirate Elites:
The self-styled ‘elites’ prefer to, like the Rounders, carry out sneak attack raids. However, whereas the Rounders perform large sneak attacks as distractions and hit from the side, taking what they can, the Elites prefer to sneak in, kill some guards and take what is light or fast enough to get away with. They don’t go out of their way to take everything; only what they can carry, and then they melt back into the shadows. They can attack anywhere, but their major areas of operations are the mountains, the deserts and the jungles. They usually operate out of temporary camps which move every week or so to avoid detection.
    Deserts/mountains: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100323081322/lostplanet/images/e/e9/Carpetbagger_01.png
    Jungles/Ice: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100323081730/lostplanet/images/8/88/Snow_Pirate_Elite_01.png

    Fight Junkies:
Exactly what the name implies. They care nothing for tactics or planning; they rush straight in and overwhelm their foes in massive, surprise attacks from the side, stealing whatever isn’t nailed down…and if it is nailed down? They steal the nails as well. They are loud, obnoxious and aggressive, and only care if it’s big and shiny. They are expert fighters, however, and can disappear back into the forest or desert seamlessly. They avoid the icy areas, preferring the arid heat and humidity of jungles and deserts.
    Deserts: http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-14/art/lp2-vagabundo.jpg
    Jungles: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100323081458/lostplanet/images/7/77/Jungle_Pirate.png

    NEVEC:
The Military Corporation that is meant to have overseen the colonisation and protected the colonists. They are at constant war with the Akrid and the Snow Pirates, and are the best-funded and most high-tech of all the factions. Of course, that means little when your stuff is getting stolen. Of course, they do win just as many skirmishes as they lose. They are disciplined, organised and very, very effective in all theatres of war, being trained in desert, jungle, snow, mountain and sea warfare, their special forces being second to none.
    http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090713050109/lostplanet/images/6/60/NEVEC_Soldier.jpg

    Ex-NEVEC:
Exactly the same as NEVEC, except that they have defected. They attack mainly NEVEC and the Akrid, but occasionally attack Snow Pirates as well. They get their stuff the same way Snow Pirates do: theft from other factions. They are just as well trained as NEVEC is.

Now, the weapons available for human use are:

    Machine Gun
    Shotgun
    Pistol
    Rocket Launcher
    Flamethrower
    Sniper rifle
    Laser Rifle

Each Human has something called a “Harmonizer” which lessens the use of Thermal Energy and can keep you alive for a short time if your T-energy runs out. If you are wounded, it uses some of your T-energy reserves to heal that wound. Each human also has a grappling hook on their wrist, for use in climbing or- if you’re creative- fighting Akrid. The Akrids major weakness is the large red patches on their bodies were they store their thermal energy. Shoot that, you can collect some T-energy and hurt them at the same time.
The Akrid are mostly insectoid in appearance; beyond that, go ahead and be creative : ) Have a look at the bottom links on this page (Category S, M and G Akrid (Small, Medium and Gigantic respectively)) for a basic idea.

Finally, the Vital Suits (VS’s). Just go to this page and read scroll down to where the first picture of a robot is. For simplicities sake, I’ll say that you can remove and attach weapons to most VS’s, and these are the weapons you can have:

    VS Gatling Gun
    VS Rocket Launcher
    VS Shotgun
    VS Flamethrower
    VS Laser Rifle
VS Plasma Gun (Gatling Gun but with high-temperature plasma bullets)
    Chain Blades
(for the Cakti) tank shells, machine gun and a large drill.
    http://lostplanet.wikia.com/wiki/Vital_Suit

    Roles:

    Rounders:
-Mireya, Leader of a small group.

    Snow Pirates Elites:
-Capri, leader of a small band of SPE's.

    Fight Junkies:
-Danny, leader of a small group of Fight Junkies
-Jade, heavy weapons specialist in Danny's squad

    NEVEC:
-Kristie, Colonel of a small group of NEVEC soldiers.

    Ex-NEVEC:
-Murdoch (me), leader of a small three-man squad sent to collect T-energy and neutralise rivals.
-Brandon (Can't remember the character name), medic in Murdochs squad.

    Colonists:

Ok, we all start in a massive jungle on the east side of the continent. We’ve all heard of a G-class Akrid prowling around here (an absolutely colossal Akrid) and have come to kill it and collect the massive amounts of T-energy that it will drop. Needless to say, we aren’t eager to work with each other, so what will we do when we enter the dark, oppressive jungles that are teeming with rival hunters and hostile Akrid…?

Ok, I'm gonna clear some things up. The Bio will consist only of one or two elements, the rest being revealed later on by the player. Ok?

    Name: Murdoch Guinne
Age: 26 [make this realistic; they won't be sending in teenagers to attack a G-category Akrid].
    Faction: Ex-Nevec
Rank: Captain of a small four-wo/man team named "Taskforce Pariah". The taskforce consists of him, a tech/comms officer, a medic and a heavy weapons specialist. They are one of several Ex-NEVEC squads being dropped in.
    Weapons equipped at start:
[Human] A pistol and a machine gun.
    [VS]
    -Murdoch: Gatling Gun.
    -Heavy Weapons Specialist: Rocket Launcher
    -Comms Officer: Shotgun
    -Medic: Rifle
    Starting V-suits: Four Evax's.

Ok, so remember; the aim is to find and kill the G-category Akrid that scans have picked up in the jungle. We don't find the G-Akrid until I say so, but feel free to orchestrate encounters with Akrid yourselves. Just skim the links at the bottom of this page:
    http://lostplanet.wikia.com/wiki/Akrid
No G-categories, but S and M Akrid are fine to use. These jungles are swarming with them. Smile Also feel free to skirmish with other factions as well. Make the V-suits you start with realistic for the terrain and starting point in the game. When we encounter the G-Akrid, I will make available slightly more powerful ones, but beware that you will become a target if driving one. XD.

Also, the Harmonizers will heal wounds and power V-suits at the cost of thermal energy. Kill Akrid to replenish Akrid...just be sure not to act like the T-energy is unlimited. If you think you would be running low, say so.

Look, if you want to be NEVEC, why don't you just be, like, the comms expert in Kristies squad, or the weapons specialist or the medic or something like that? Or you could be the leader of a squad of Fight Junkies Smile

With the VS, just read through the small paragraphs until you find one you think would work. Choose a relatively weak one, though: I'd say the limit would be a Granseed. Smile

Oh, guys, I am taking ideas for Akrid. I need some for special events, so I am likely to use a lot of ideas. Just PM me your suggestions.

ooc: Ok. Opening post is right here, and I want you all to start as you're arriving at the forest. Because you're all mostly in different groups, you can more or less control what happens. If you want an encounter with Akrid- which there will be, trust me- then go ahead and make some. If you want an encounter with a rival, NPC faction, go ahead. If you want to encounter the players, again, go ahead, but try to make it brief: Like a hit and run thing, and don't godmod. If I think you're handling the Akrid unrealistically (EG, killing a Chryatis in a single shot whilst carrying your teammate over one shoulder) then I will call you up on it, and if you do it persistently...well. Lets not go to that, eh?

    Ic:

The Jungle. It has no name, and indeed needs none. Although there are an increasing amount of jungles and forests appearing all over E.D.N. III, this is by far the largest and most important so far. Spanning well over one hundred miles in all directions from its center, it is complete with valleys, rocky outcrops, fast-flowing rivers and extensive cave networks. It is one of the rapidly increasing number of locations that can sustain human life without the need for bodysuits, but weapons are definitely still needed: It is, after all, infested with the monsterous, aggressive race known as The Akrid. But then, so is every inch of this rock they call a planet.

Rock or not, though, it is the home of thousands, tens of thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of colonists struggling to make a life here, despite the carnage wrought on them by Akrid, Snow Pirates and the constant wars over the precious T-energy. The Jungle is not the latest frontier in this war for survival, nor is it the first. It is newer than a lot, sure, but not as new as the deserts that have just been revealed from beneath the ice to the north. It's only a year old, but already it is crawling with bases from all of the factions.

Every faction- The Snow Pirate Elites, The Rounders, The Fight Junkies, NEVEC, Ex-NEVEC- leapt on this area instantly, all figuring the same thing: Akrid=T-energy. T-energy=power. Besides, this area is rich in edible plants and vegetables, is warm enough to sustain comfortable human life, it has fresh water and plenty of rain, so it would be as ideal a spot as any for settlements, and added in with the caves and valleys and such, would make a strategic place for a base. There is the small problem of Akrid, but that is a problem present on every inch of this planet.

Every Faction set up bases here, and all have been fighting over the area for the last two years, but recently something changed. The Ex-NEVEC base network picked up massive T-energy spikes in the area, as well as increased Akrid activity and rapid changes in the weather, from snow to blistering heat to driving rains, all pointing to one thing: A massive Cat-G in the area, and not an Undeep or something as relatively small as that either. The last transmission from the Ex-NEVEC main relay base was that the main complex was picking up massive tremors and some massive lifesigns, and then it cut out. A day later, Taskforce Archangel managed to capture a Rounder base in the New Mombai Desert, and found the situation the same: They had lost contact with their base at around the same time. It's assumed that this is the same for all Factions, which would account for the increased activity in the Factions forces that are being reported by Jungle-external radar posts; Not only are more troops being sent to investigate what happened to the bases, but all factions aim to kill the Cat-G in the area. Everyone knows that a Cat-G is a goldmine of T-energy.

Murdoch scans the treeline of The Jungle- about two miles away- through his HUD's binoculars. Snow Pirates don't have the full-head HUD that he does, although they may have a pair of goggles or a monocle of some description. Scans reported seeing NEVEC activity in this area, and that is one group that Murdoch doesn't want to run into, being Ex-NEVEC and all.
He takes a step forward, the machinery of the Evax VS whirring quietly as he does so. From his vantage point atop the VS, he can pretty much see everything across that rolling plain between him and the treeline, and he doesn't think he can see any Akrid activity. Of course, there are species that lurk underground until they sense movement above them- the Chryatis or, worse, the Undeep- but there's no real way to detect them.

So, all in all, he can't see any immediate threats, and hopefully they'll be moving too fast for any hiding Akrid to be a real threat. He turns his VS around, and surveys his squad, Taskforce Pariah. They are one of many Taskforces dropped into this area to discover the fate of the base- they are presumed KIA for the moment- and kill the Cat-G, gathering the T-energy that it has harvested and preventing it from damaging the ecosystem further. The Cat-M's and S's aren't a problem, but the Cat-G's do have serious effects on the world around them, depending on their size.

Taskforce Pariah is set to enter from the north, Taskforce Archangel from the south, Taskforce Reaper from the east and Taskforce Legion the west. They are to meet up at the base and then go Cat-G hunting. Taskforce Pariah is made up of four members: Himself, the Captain, Brandon, the medic, Jared, the Heavy Weapons Specialist and Melissa, the Comms officer. They're all in Evax's as well, but with different weapons. Brandon and Murdoch each have a Gattling Gin attached to theirs, whilst Melissa has a shotgun and Jarred has a rocket launcher, for those tough scraps that require a bit of extra firepower. They've been in difficult scraps before, but something tells Murdoch that this will be their toughest yet. They've only fought one Cat-G- besides Undeeps- before, and they barely survived.

His Evax whirrs slightly as it sits there, gradually draining his T-energy, and he nods to himself. Right. He has to get a move on.
He switches on his radio, and speaks into the team frequency. Even if they can't hear his voice directly, they'll be able to hear him over the radio. "There appear to be no hostiles between us and the treeline. I assume we are all clear on our mission?"

Jade walked through the Jungle, pushing branches and leaves aside as her boots trekked through the mossy Earth. She could hear the rustle of the plants, and her com was crackling. Her eyes were squinting through her HUD as she tried to find the Akrid. She clutched her shotgun tightly in her small hands. Being only twenty four years old, she had a great lack of experience. This was her first mission, and although her heart was pounding in her chest and her cheeks flushed red with the heat, she had confidence, in not only herself, but the other Fight Junkies too. She needed this T-Engergy. They all did. And there was only one way to get it.

The thick jungle surrounded the silent, still women as she scanned the area around her with her goggles.
She turned on her radio, "Team, report to me immediately if you detect any Akrid movement." The metallic noise transfered to her five Elite members, as she glanced back at their various positions. They were hidden as she was.

"Be on your toes," Capri spoke again, turning her head back around and pulling the goggles up to her eyes once more.

ooc: Guys, I'm working on an information thread, so you can look up the known Akrid (as well as those created by you guys) and the VS's. Oh, if you want to create a VS, use a form similar to the Akrid creation. Smile Also, I will be culling the 15-man-squads, just so you know Smile

    Ic:

Murdoch chuckles quietly at Brandons forced formality, even as the rest of the squad confirm their understanding. It always surprises Murdoch how Brandon always needs to be told that they're not on-base anymore; they can talk freely. Hell, they've been through enough as a squad to count as friends, and if he can't count on these guys for honesty, who can he count on?

"Come now, Brandon; You know better than that," he admonishes lightly. "How many scraps have we been in? When we're off base, you speak informally, alright?" He doesn't wait for an answer, though, as he turns the VS back to face the treeline. He isn't looking forward to entering that mysterious hellhole- he specifically asked not to be sent here, but he was ignored- but he has to, or be counted as a deserter.

Pressing a couple of buttons on the interface in front of him, his Evax transforms into a bike, and he gives it a good rev. Engine appears to working, all systems appear to be working, gun has plenty of ammo...well then. Time to go.
"Squad ready?" He asks over the radio as he hears the sound of a couple of transforming VS's behind him.

Jade continued to push aside the various twigs, leaves, and branches of the jungle, feeling hotter and hotter and the sun rolled above her. She continued to hear the crackling of her communication device as the dry heat sparked through it. Her feet ached on the uneven floor, but she continued forward. She had a job to do, and the T-Energy was worth it.

I smirked and nodded quickly. no one saw me, so I guess it was mainly to myself. "So. Murdoch. Are you taking point? Or what is our strategy here...? We don't have all day. T-energy is draining by the second here..." I stated, glancing quickly at the top right of my HUD, to check my energy level.

Too long since we’d been able to get out like this; for something really worth the energy and time. Something worth our strength and patience. Cat-G Akrid, never seen one before in my life, so needless to say I was looking forward to an upgrade in my experience. The S and K guys were.. Boring to say the least, and anything else had become so predictable when hunting, we’d end up killing more then instructed. Of course, we were far, far from being stronger then the Akrid, and continued to have our fair share of losses, but we were getting better. Something.. New, that’s all we really wanted, that’s all I really wanted. Everyone assumes that the essential need for T-Energy is what keeps people like us, and the other factions going – Which are true, for more cases. T-Energy to me came second. Adrenaline came first – Something I can’t wait to feel once we see the Cat-G. Something so huge, so God damn ugly, so.. Perfect.
“Ground is clear Ma’am. We’re ready to move in when you say. Kevin tracked the small Raibees swarm, and they seemed to have something set on their minds, they’ve disappeared to the East, and pose no further threat.” Greg reported to me through the radio speakers. He’s my long range specialist, and the best sniper shot I’ve ever met. You could put a can on a hill 3 miles away, and by the time you say shoot it down, it’ll already be flying into the sky.
“Alright, where is everyone else? I’ve got eyes on Greg, Alex, Conner, and Aaron. Anyone seen Jonathan or Randy? I sent them to stomp some ground down their about 20 minutes ago, and no reports.”
“And we’re still stomping. Thick bush is hard to get through you know?” Randy soon after reported into my headset. He and Jonathan, Close Combat boys, or ‘Beaters’, as they enjoy being called. Both set up in some GTB-22 Faze’s, they are our first volunteers when it comes to flushing out any hiding guest.
“I didn’t see any bush when we flew here. How far are in are you guys?”
“I’d say about 100-120 yards, wouldn’t you say Randy?” Jonathan said with a hint of sarcasm.
    “Agreed.”
“I’m pretty sure I said go no further then 100. If you’re past that point I want you to stay where you are until we reach out. Separating too far is idiotic. Stay PUT.” They were 23 and 22, youngest here, the most brutal ones, and the most immature.
“One day boys, one day you’ll push her buttons too far.” Amy, my younger sister, and ‘inside’ woman I suppose – She was good at stealth, came from being quiet a person to begin with. She was seated in a GAN-34 Granseed and had been trolling invisible along down there same as the guys, seeing if we had anything trying to sneak up.
“You mean we haven’t yet? Randy, did you hear that?”
“Yea, I heard. I guess we’ll have to try a bit harder eh?”
    “Most definitely.”
“Take one more step and I’m personally feeding you to the next thing we find. Stay there, and make sure everyone else is in the area. I’m sending the position of where to meet to your systems right now. Let’s get going, we’ve wasting time.”
After I transmitted that last message to everyone, and sent out the coordinates, I began my way down the steep and rocky hill leading to the forest. It’d been a peaceful morning, and looked as though it’d be quiet for a bit longer. The Akrid were abnormally scarce where we were currently, odd, they have no boundaries. No one minded the quiet, but the fear of a bunched amount of Akrid somewhere in the forest, being in close courters, was something to worry about greatly.

ooc: One thing, Kristie...I don't want to be a pain, but the X-seed is a bit powerful for this stage in the RP. Do you mind changing that to a Granseed? Please and thank you. Smile

    Ic:

"Strategy?" He asks, supressing a smirk. "Since when did we need a strategy for crossing an empty plain?" He chuckles quietly, almost inaudibly. He's joking of course; a strategy is always needed, whether the task looks easy or hard, because something unexpected could easily happen and the eventuality you don't plan for is the one that catches you out. He doesn't wait for an answer to his question, instead talking over whatever they could have been about to say.

"I take point with Melissa, heading across the plains. You take the left flank, Jared the right, covering the others incase we're jumped by anything. We enter the jungle 50 feet away from the man nearest us, looping in to link up at the small recon station. We exit the Nevax's there, heading inside to investigate why it's no longer broadcasting. Everybody set?" He asks, glancing behind him. He needs everyone in the bike mode, ready to move out on his word.

OOC-Woaahh, sorry. I meant to put 'five' not 'fifteen'. Yes, I have fifteen crew members, but I've only brought five with me.

Capri looked around once more, then spoke into the radio again, "Grey, Sam, Fabio, Mika, Kim." She got her crew's attention. Her med specialist, weapon specialist, and so on and so forth.

"Y'all remember the game plan, correct?"

"Roger" said a couple. "You bet." etcetera, etcetera.

"Good, I want to be ready. That Cat-G's out their somewhere..." Capri trailed off, flicking a piece of her dark hair out of her face.

Mireya carefully trekked through the dense jungle, marveling at the planet's vitality. It was quite literally just yesterday that she was combing her beloved red desert for swarms of sepia with her squad. Now, only four strong, they scouted the rain forest.

The new climate was a challenge, but their Fazes were quite adept to the change.

The radio on her ear crackled. "Jelites ahead. Minor threat, but good for target practice."

She scoffed. "Don't get cocky, Hawk-eye. Harvest the T energy as much as you can, and be wary of Jellons. There's probably at least one among them."

"Pardon me, ma'am. I'll be on my best behavior," she heard him say before the com cut out. She heard the distant noises of gun-fire and proceeded with the men, careful to watch her back. She was not by far used to there being so much cover everywhere for the akrids...or worse to use.

ooc: Hope that checks out, Murdoch.

"Yea. I'm good." I stated quickly, noticing his sarcasm and I shifted my VS into bike mode, speeding over to get into my postion to the left of the group. Keeping a watchful eye over my surroundings and the group, as I was trained.

Looking to his left and his right, he gives a small nod to each of his 'wingmen' before turning to glance at Melissa, waiting patiently behind him. "Ready?" He asks, but gives them no chance to answer as he then revs the engine and sets off across the plain, Melissa and his wingmen right behind him in position. He s
gets up to speed very quickly, soon travelling at top speed across the plains and, before he knows it, he's burst through the treeline and is heading down a small beaten track. He decreases the speed of the bike, slowing it to a gradual halt before shifting back into the VS mode. He scans the area quickly- no Akrid activity that he can spot just yet, but he keeps his weapons ready- before patching back into the radio.

"Status update," he orders into the radio. "Where is everyone? Ready for the meet up?"
