Starting Over (Capri & Asher)

I raised an eyebrow, even though Capri wouldn't be able to see it. I didn't understand why she was laughing or why it was important that I worked next door.

"Uhm yeah.." I continued. "Business is really shot here. I was wondering if I could make my way over for a little bit? Just for my half hour break?" I said as I grabbed my sunglasses, wallet and cellphone off the counter.

He hadn't laughed back. I realized that how weird I would have sounded to him. Oh, well.

Turning away from the girls, I became genuine, "That'd be great. there isn't any business over here either. And I don't really get a break, seeing as I'm one of the only workers."

"I'll be right over." I smirked into the phone. I hung up and walked to the front door, putting up a sign and then walking out. I locked it and shoved the key in my wallet, walking to the next door over into the bike shop.

"Hey." I smiled as I walked in. Three giddy girls turned around, faces flushed and smiles wide. "Uhmm," I paused. "Hello?" I said questionably.

I covered my mouth to hide my smile, "Heyy." I said back. "Business is way too slow today."

The girls' seemed anxious to talk to him, but it was obvious that I was interfering. Better luck next time. They smirked, though it was all just a facade, and walked out of the store with various winks and giggles at Asher.

I waited until they left to laugh, a wide grin on my dark lips while doing so.

"What?" I smiled as I walked closer to her. Her grin large and wide on her face. "What are you smiling about?" I leaned on the counter and looked towards the door when a couple came in, looking for a double seated bike.

Still smiling, I symbolically waved it away, "Those girls," I said, "They come around here every week and just gossip non-stop. It's funny to mess with them."

I chuckled softly and turned back to see the same three girls walking back and forth in front of the store window, trying to catch a peek inside. I smiled and turned back to Capri.

"So, I was thinking..." I paused, and took a deep breath. "Maybe we can go out for lunch or dinner tonight?" I looked into her eyes. Scared of being rejected and regretting having even brought it up. "I understand if you don't want to." I said looking down.

Something twisted in my stomach. I was caught off guard. Having not dated or even talked to anyone with a trace a testosterone was taking its toll on me. Maybe I was ready? I honestly couldn't tell. But I couldn't say no. I would hate to be in his spot right now.

With a blink of my amber eyes and a small smile, I tried to wipe away my worries. "Sure," I said, my smiling facade not breaking, "Sounds like fun. If I can clear it with my parents."

I nodded and smiled. "Sure thing." I smiled. I took a business card from the counter and a pen. I wrote down my number and I slid it to Capri. "Give me a call." I smiled.

I turned away and started to walk towards the door of the bike shop. I opened the door and three girls were standing right outside. I turned, with the door open, and said loud enough for them to hear; "I'll pick you up at 8." I walked out and smiled towards them. "Ladies." I bowed my head with a smile and walked back to Glamour.

"I look forward to it!" I exclaimed with a wide grin as the door jingled shut. The girls' blinked slowly, their expressions of amazement.

Once leaving my shift, I hurried home. It was already 7pm and I only had an hour to get myself ready. As soon as I got home I hurried to my bathroom, undressing as I made my way there. By the time I got to my bathroom, I was already halfway undressed. I hurried into the shower and sped through it as well, but making sure I cleaned up nice.

I brushed my teeth and combed my hair. I dressed in causal but nice wear. 7:47; my clock read. I grabbed my keys and a jacket as I headed out the door. My wallet in my mouth, my phone in my jeans pocket, I tried to put on my jacket as I unlocked my car. I drove to Capri's house and parked in her drive way. I went to the door and rang the bell.

Taking a deep breath, I hesitantly examined myself in the full-sized mirror in my bedroom.

My usual long, dark hairstyle was now swept up into a pin-straight, sleek ponytail, the end of it touching the middle of my back. I'd been a while since I'd pulled the hair off of my face. My high, arched brows seemed to make themselves known more than usual as I looked at them with seemingly sharp amber eyes. My clothing, since I didn't exactly know how to dress myself for this evening, was that of a comfy pale lavender dress that went down t about mid-thigh accompanied with a long grey cardigan and some white flats. Tying a thin white leather belt around my dress and cardigan, I gave myself a reassuring nod.

I didn't leave a note for my parents or anything. Why would they care?

Was I really doing this? Going out with an actual peron? Yes. Making a friend? Maybe. Going on a date? No.

No. Definitely not. I wasn't ready for that. What, I'd only known him for barely 24 hours now? Surely he wouldn't be moving that quickly...

Thankfully, just as I my stomach churned nervously, I shook myself, standing up straighter. And then the doorbell rang. Before another wave of nausea could hit and I convinced myself to play sick, I grabbed my cell phone off of my desk, placed it in my cardigan pocket, and ran down stairs to open the door, turning the lights off as I went. I took one last deep breath, then opened the door.

I had my back turned to the door when I heard it open. With my hands in my pocket, almost knocking myself over, I turned swiftly. I smiled upon seeing Capri. "Hey," I smiled, "you look great."

I stepped aside, letting Capri in front of me. I walked to the car, opening her door for her. I wasn't being flirty, just polite... Right? I cleared my throat and shut the door once she sat. I got into the car and drove off.

"I hope you don't mind," I started, "the restaurant isn't super fancy. Just something casual. After all, it's not as if I'm trying to pick you up." I joked.

"Thanks," I said, "Not to shabby yourself." After situating myself in the car, I answered him, "It's cool. I'm good with that," Tapping my food to the beat of the radio, I unconsciously ran a hand through my black ponytail.

As we eventually neared close to the restaurant, I started to get anxious. What if she wanted it to be a date, and I said it wasn't? What if she doesn't even want to be here? What if... what if she doesn't even like me as a person and is only here because she feels pity for me?

As thoughts ran through my mind. I started to close again. My wall being rebuilt. All my secrets and background being shoved into their tight locked cages behind the wall. I got out of the car after parking it and walked to her side, opening hers.

Stepping out beside then, I glanced at Asher from the sideways and shut his car door. I returned my focus to the building in front of us, realizing that he was quite nervous. I was good at reading people like that.

I opened the door and walked in after her. The hostess asked for my name, and upon receiving it, she grabbed two menus and escorted us to a booth. I thanked her and sat down, opposite of Capri.

"I hope you like it here." I said with a small smile, as I opened my menu.

"Oh, I used to come here all the time after school with my friends." I said, just as a pang of pain went through my stomach. I smiled to cover it up. The place reminded me horribly of Lena, but I didn't show it. Or I'd start hyperventilating or something. I looked at the menu, trying to be nonchalant.

"Oh cool." I smiled picking up the menu and looking through. For some reason, whenever I was nervous, I didn't have the best of appetites. But I couldn't not eat. I brought her for exactly that reason.

The waitress made her way towards the table and smiled as she took out a pad and a pen. "Can I help you with something?"

I looked at Capri, then up at the waitress and smiled. "Can I get a sprite for now? I still haven't decided what to eat." She nodded and wrote it down, then turned her attention to Capri.

"Iced tea for me, Gina," I said to the waitress with a small side smile. I knew her from high school. She nodded her brown head and turned to walk away.

Slowly, my head turned to Asher. I analyzed his face with amber eyes. Something was wrong with him. I've always been able to read people easily; I'm very intuitive. "Are you alright?" I asked, already knowing the answer.

I nodded and plastered a smile across my face. "Yeah. Are you?" I didn't keep eye contact with her. I felt as though I would throw up if I did. My eyes darted back in forth in nervousness.
