Car accident [Stephanie & Devon]

Stephanie:I lay motion-less in the hospital bed, my parents were sitting on my right side talking to each other.
Mom's POV:
I look over at my daughter, she was still just laying there I see her cell phone on the table next to her, I reach over to it and flip it open till I found her boyfriends number, I hit call and wait for an answer. I look at my watch as the phone rings it was 3:30 in the morning, I sigh waiting.
Devon:
Devon was a soft sleeper. Hearing his cell vibrate against his mattress was enough to wake him up. He grumbled as he picked the phone and noticed it was Steph's.
"Babe...you have any idea what time it is?"
Mom's POV:
Devon answers the Cell "Hello, Devon? This is Jennifer Nichols, Stephanie's mom" I say then pause taking a deep breath "Uhm Stephanie was in an accident tonight" I say then wait for his reaction, because I knew I wouldn't be able to continue without him saying something. I look at steph sleeping in the bed as I listen into the phone.
Devon:
"Ms. Nichols!" He was in shock hearing her and sat up, then he was paralyzed. Everything in him went cold when he heard what she said. "An accident? How...How bad? What hospital, should I come?" He started blurring out as he quickly searched for a pair of pants and a shirt.
Mom's POV:
I sigh, "Yeah Devon, Uhm she had been asleep since we got here, the doctor said she might have some mild temporary memory loss, but other than that that’s all we know." I say "She’s at the local hospital, tell the receptionist who you are looking for and she will tell you where to go, I think It would be good for Stephanie if you were here when she woke up" I say into the phone as I look around the room
Devon:
Devon managed to get dressed. "I'll be right there." He hung up and got a sheet of paper from his notebook to write a note for his parents, and left it on the fridge. He got his Jeeps car keys and rushed off. He was in luck that no cop noticed his speed or crossing all the red lights.
Once he arrived at the hospital, he asked the receptionist. "Stephanie Nichols?"
She checked her computer, "3rd floor, to your left, down the hall, room 303."
Devon nodded and followed the instructions. He was standing in front of the door room 303. He inhaled deeply before knocking.
Mom's POV:
I hear a knock on the door and I look at Steph, lying on the bed sleeping, and I walk over and open the door "Hey Devon" I say letting him in. Just after Devon walks in a Doctor comes into the room and asks if he can talk to me, so I leave, The doctor tells me that Stephanie should be waking up any minute now, and that we have to be careful because she might have some temporary memory loss at the moment, and If we confuse and over-stress her it could be dangerous for her health. I nod and walk back in the room...
Devon:
Devon swallowed hard looking at Stephanie. The doctor called out to speak alone to Stephanie's mother. Devon dug his hands deep into his pockets waiting for her return. When she was back he faced her.
"What did he say?"
Mom's POV:
I look at Devon "He said that Steph should wake up any minute now, and that when she does wake up that she will most likely have some temporary memory loss from the trauma, and that we need to be careful not to confuse her too much, and not to stress her because It could be harmful to her health." I tell him as I walk over next to steph I look at her, hoping she would wake up sooner than later, I smile at her then sit back in my chair that was placed next to her bed.
Devon:
He felt like everything in his world tumbled. "Memory loss?" He looked down trying to keep himself together. "How did...um...the accident? How was it?" Devon wanted details. He couldn't believe this was happening.
Mom's POV:
I look over at Devon "Honey, I'm sorry, I know this is hard for you but we gotta try to be optimistic here" I say before I explain things "Well, she was driving home from a football game and a guy ran a stoplight and, she’s really lucky because she accelerated when she saw him, so he ended up just clipping the back of her car causing her to not be hurt even more, but she did knock her head a few times which is probably the cause of the predicted temporary memory loss" I inform him.
Stephanie: I wake up in a bed but before I open my eyes I hear voices around me, they sounded vaguely familiar, I lay there as if I was asleep listening to every word spoken, I could tell the people talking cared about me alot.
Devon:
His jaw clenched and his fists were so tight that made his knuckles look white, "And the guy? He's free?" Devon wanted to hit the wall badly. Wished all this were a bad dream.
Mom's POV:
"The guy" I say and take a deep breath "Was never found" I say to him looking at the ground, and running my hand through my hair. I sit in my chair and put my face in my hands, breathing deeply to try to calm down.
Stephanie:
After listening to the story I was confused, Were they talking about me?, Is that why I'm Sleeping? Who are these people? Do I know them?...As the questions raced through my mind, I slowly open my eyes blinking a few times, I look to my left side and see the back of a guy who is looking at a lady who is sitting in a chair with her face in her hands. I didn't say anything.
Devon:
"But how..." He breathed in and out slowly. "That's not fair..."
Mom's POV:
"Yeah I know, but there isn't anything we can do" I say to Devon as I look up, and see past him Steph's eyes were open. I jump out of my seat "Steph sweetie how do you feel?" I ask her relieved she was awake.
Stephanie:
A lady rushes over to me when she sees that I'm awake, "Um, Hi?" I say to her confused when she calls me sweetie "Do I know you?" I ask quietly.
Devon:
Devon turned around and felt heartbroken. She didn't remember her mom...What were the odds of her recognizing him. He took a few steps towards Stephanie, "Welcome back..."
Stephanie:
I look at the cute guy who said 'Welcome back', I smile slightly "Thanks" I say even though I couldn't quite put my finger on who he was.
Mom's POV:
"Stephanie you don't know who I am?" I ask tearing up, as she nods her head no, "I’m your mother" I say sitting back in the chair.
Stephanie:
I watch the lady start to cry, and tell me she’s my mom. I feel myself start to tear up, How could I not know who my mom was, and who was the guy in here, what was going on. "Why can't I remember who you guys are?" I ask as tears run down my cheek, you shouldn’t be able to forget who your parents are, or who the people who were closest to you are.
Devon:
Devon sighed looking helplessly at Stephanie's mom then back at her. "You've been in an accident. So you'll be fuzzy in the head for some time." He managed to say.
Stephanie:
"But how is it possible for me to forget who my own mom is?" I ask as I start to get a headache.....I close my eyes for a second, then look up again at the guy he looked sooo familiar, but I just couldn't put my finger on who he was "Were you with me when I got in the accident? Or were you the last person I saw?" I ask him, I slightly remember thinking about someone who looked like him when I was about to get hit, Like they say your life flashes before your eyes, well I vaguely remember seeing his face, and hearing the voice of the lady that claimed to be my mother. I rub my head with my hand, it was starting to pound and it hurt.
Devon:
"No...I was home already." He swallowed hard, "I'm well your boyfriend...Don't stress yourself," Devon said as he noticed her pained face.
Stephanie:
I look at the guy who said he’s my boyfriend, and I feel tears run down my cheek, I try to sit up but it hurts my head even more, so I lay back down. I couldn't understand how I didn’t know these people, But they felt vaguely familiar, I couldn’t stand it.
Mom's POV:
I watch Devon explain who he is, and I could not take that she couldn’t remember "I'll be right back" I say quietly as I walk out. I go to the waiting room and sit in the corner thinking about everything that has happened.
Devon:
Devon saw her mom leave and looked back at Stephanie, "You should rest."
Mom's POV:
I see a nurse walk past the waiting room, and I tell her to bring Steph some headache meds, because I knew she was In pain. I sigh and sit in the waiting room looking around.
Stephanie:
"Why?" I ask the guy "I don’t understand this, why don't I know you guys?" I ask as a nurse walks in and she gives me headache meds "This should help" she says, then walks away "How long have we been together?" I ask Devon
Devon:
"You had a bad bump Steph. The brain is divided in different lobes, and you got hit somewhere to do with memory...That's why you don't remember I guess..." Devon reached his hand to hers and allowed the nurse to give her the meds. "We've been together two years and eleven months..."
Stephanie:
I look at him as he tells me how long we've been together, and I feel a tear run down my cheek "I’m sorry" I say as I look away from him, I felt really bad for not knowing him, and I tried really hard to remember stuff about him.
Devon:
He nodded, "its ok. Not your fault. Just...Just know I'm here for you."
Stephanie:
I reach out and take his hand, "I really wish I could remember," I say, and it hurt to say that to him, I could tell I care about him alot. I didn't know what to do.
Devon:
He swallowed hard. He was in pain. Wanted to hug her. He had nearly lost her or had he lost her already? That thought hurt more yet. "I know..." He managed to mouth out.
Stephanie:
I couldn't take this, he looked like he was in pain, and I knew I was in pain, both because of my headache, and because I felt almost heartbroken because I couldn't remember him. I sat there looking at him, studying his face wishing there was something that I could see that would trigger my memory. Suddenly, when I was deep in thought the doctor walks in with my mother, "Hello Stephanie" he says, "Hi" I say to him and I hold Devon’s hand tighter, I was afraid of getting news from him because I was afraid it would be bad. The doctor looks at me "I need you to get some sleep, the more you rest your head the more likely you will get your memory back sooner" he says, I breath out a sigh of relief, "Okay" I say and I look at my mom, then at Devon.
Devon:
"I'll stick around. It's a Saturday` Rest?" Devon said.
Stephanie:
I smile at Devon, he was so sweet, no wonder I cared about him so much. I continue holding his hand as I lay down and close my eyes drifting off to sleep.
Mom's POV:
As steph falls asleep, I look at Devon "how is she?" I ask
Devon:
He sighed, "She's tired and I guess confused I'd say..."
Mom's POV:
I nod at him pulling up a chair for him "here sit" I say and then I walk over to the other side of steph and sit in another chair. "She looks all calm and fine when she’s sleeping," I say
Devon:
He sat down. "Yeah she's not stressing trying to remember."
Mom's POV:
"Yeah, I wish this hadn't happened to her" I say as I look at her sleeping
Stephanie:
I sleep, dreaming about just before the crash, I had texted Devon telling him I was heading home, and I had just left the game, I was pulling through a green light when a car accelerated trying to hit me, It was red, so I accelerated trying to get out of its way and it just barely hit missed hitting the drivers side door. I wake up suddenly breathing heavily, and looking around.
Devon:
"Steph you okay? Had a bad dream?" He asked.
Stephanie:
I look at Devon "I-I-I had a dream about the crash" I say slightly stuttering because I was surprised. "You were in my dream," I say looking at him.
Devon:
"Really? What do you remember?" He asked curiously hoping any leads to the driver.
Stephanie:
"I remember Sending you a cute text that said I was leaving and I missed you before I left, then pulling up at a stop light and It turned green, so I proceeded through, but this red car accelerated and tried to hit me, so I accelerated and he only hit the back of the car" I tell him as I reach out and take his hand again
Devon:
He squeezed her hand lightly. "If somehow you remember how he looked like or his license plate..." Devon tried his best to conceal any sort of anger. He wanted the driver to pay.
Stephanie:
"Well, I remember it was definitely a guy But that’s about it" I say looking around I see my mom, I don’t know what it was, but there was definitely something about that dream that made me remember who my mom was, and who Devon was, and I was happy about that.
Devon:
He nodded, "That's ok. Try resting more." Devon leaned over to kiss her forehead then her hand. "Want water before you try resting again?"
Stephanie:
"Please" I say smiling at him, I was lucky to have him, and my family, they were amazing throughout this whole thing. I look over to my mom "When do I get to leave?" I ask, and looks at me "Not for a few days, they still have a few tests to run," she says
Devon:
He went to get a cup and opened the mini-fridge serving some water and handing it to Stephanie. "Here darling."
Stephanie:
"Thanks" I say as I sip it, I look at him "You need to rest as well" I tell him
Devon:
"Don't worry about me." He smiled. "Right now I'll go see if I can talk to the police."
Stephanie:
"Uhm, okay" I say not wanting him to leave, but I needed to sleep more. I look over at my mom "You need rest too you know" and she smiles "Steph, stop worrying about everyone else, we are here because we care about you, and your the one that needs rest to most." I smile "Thanks mom" I say laughing slightly, I turn and look at Devon "Do you have any idea who did it?" I ask
Devon:
"No. But I'll find out. Red car and a dude. It's a start." He walked out and called the police department.
Stephanie:
I watch him leave, wishing he would stay and deal with it later. But oh well, I look at my mom and she says "Hun, get some more sleep, you need it" I sigh, and lay back closing my eyes, drifting into a light sleep
Mom's POV:
I watch her fall asleep and I let out a loud sigh, it was amazing she wasn’t hurt more, but this was very stressful.
Devon:
Devon finished his call and went back in. "I spoke to the police Ms. Nichols. They said they need more car detail before they start questioning anyone with a plain red car."
Mom's POV:
I look over at Devon "Thanks, and okay" I say then I look back at Stephanie "Devon you should probably get some rest, I'm going to go get some coffee from the cafeteria downstairs, Ill be right back" I say to Devon as I walk out
Stephanie:
I lay there sleeping, but instead of dreaming about the crash this time, I dream about some guy, he went by the name Jake, and we were dating. He had a red car and we were riding in it, when I got a text with a picture of him cheating on me. I ask him to pull over and I get out of the car and start to walk home trying to keep my composure about everything. But Jake got curious, worried and mad, and he followed me "STEPH WHERE THE HECK DO YOU THINK YOUR GOING?!?" he yells, I wipe my face and turn around "Why Don't you ask Madison, She is your Girlfriend after all" I say back to him and I turn and keep walking.
Devon:
Devon sat down, crossed his arms and allowed himself to fall asleep in that position.
Mom's POV:
I walk back in the room sipping my coffee, I see Devon sleeping, I was glad to see he was getting some rest. The doctor walks in and asks to talk to me, I nod and walk out of the room "What’s up?" I ask him curiously he looks at me "Well, seeing as her memory is coming back and our required tests we have administered have come up with nothing she can probably leave tomorrow" he tells me, I smile "Really?" I ask, he nods "Ill have everything ready"
Stephanie:
(my dream)Jake runs after me slapping me in the face, I automatically knew he had drank some alcohol that night, because if he hadn’t he wouldn't have laid a hand on me, I hold my hand up to my face where he slapped me, and I turn around running home. Jake was a violent, jealous, dangerous Drunk, and he is my ex. I wake up and look around, I see Devon sleeping and I smile. I look around thinking about my dream, and I came to the conclusion that Jake was the one that hit me, but I couldn't tell anyone, at least not yet.
Devon:
Devon's head bobbed a few times and after a while, he woke up. His neck ached due to his bad posture
Stephanie:
I look over at Devon and smile at him, then my mom looks at me "Hun, the doctor said you can go home tomorrow" she said with a big smile. I was happy to be able to leave, "Where's my cell?" I ask my mom and Devon. But right when I ask my mom walks out to refill her coffee cup
He yawns, "Umm what?" He asked sounding groggy.
Stephanie:
"Hey Sleepyhead, have you seen my phone?" I ask giggling, totally forgetting about my dream.
Devon:
"Umm...on the table?" He said stretching some more and rubbing his eyes.
Stephanie:
I look over at the table "Oh" I say laughing, as I grab it, I look back at him "The Tired look is hot on you" I say with a smile, then I look at my phone going through my numerous texts, and missed calls.
Devon:
He grinned, "Glad you think so."
Stephanie:
I look at him and smile "Yeah" I say looking in his eyes, "So what’s the first thing we are going to do when I get out?" I ask him, as I reply to numerous texts and skip the ones from Jake, actually, I go back and delete the ones from Jake, and I put my phone on the table in front of Devon, as it deletes my messages.
Devon:
"You going to rest some more." Devon said as he got up to lean over and kiss her forehead. "More you rest sooner you remember, sooner I can, I mean police can get guy to pay, and sooner you can remember you guy..." He smiled and took her hand.
Stephanie:
"uhmm yeah" I say looking away from him, I hated hiding things from him and Lying to him, not to mention I was horrible at the whole lying to him thing (luckily I hadn't had to lie yet). "But, I've already gotten sooo much rest" I complain.
Devon:
"Doctors orders." Devon raised his hands up and shrugged laughing.
Stephanie:
I look at Devon "But you will keep me company right?" I ask sitting up as my mom walks in "The doctor signed the papers”, she said I smile and look at Devon
Devon:
"Sure." He smiled, "I'd love to as long as you'd want me to."
Stephanie:
"Why wouldn't I want you to keep me company?" I ask as my phone goes off, "Can you hand me that?" I ask
Devon:
He smiled and nodded handing her the phone. "Umm...Why is your ex calling you?" He asked as he noticed the screen.
Stephanie:
"I don’t know" I say looking at Devon, I didn't want to answer it, but I wanted to know what he had to say, reluctantly I take the phone and push the green button "Uh Hello?...." I say slowly "Hey" he says "Why are you calling me?" I ask him "I wanted to make sure you were okay, I’m so sorry about what happened" he says, I look at Devon, then at the wall as I continue talking "No your not, You never will be, its your fault" I say in an upset tone and I hang up on him, I put my phone on the table and look at my bed.
