"Ladies film? Like romantic comedies?" Lily raised her eyebrows. Yachts, producing films, lawyer...these people were loaded.

"I wish." Devon grunted. "Porn."

Lily raised her eyebrows and her eyes widened a bit. And he let her have custody of their child? No wonder he lived such a life; he was trying to forget!
Still, she thought, gives him no right to act the way he does.
"I see..." was all she could think to say aloud.

"Daddy it's ok." Abby said as she sensed his irritation. Devon's grip on the steering wheel tightend. If it were up to him Abby would live far away from her gold digging coke addict mother and a son of a bitch stepfather.

Lily laid a hand gently on the lawyer's shoulder.
"Relax," she said quietly. "Clear your head. Don't want us getting in a crash on their account."

Devon breathed in deep but didn't loosen his grip. "So Abby, how's school."

Lily nodded. That was a good change of subject. Somewhere in her heart, she couldn't help but feel sorry for the lawyer. Leaning forward, she gently put her hand over his, hoping to ease the white-knuckle grip on the steering wheel.

"Same old same. Those preppy girls annoy me." She said.
Devon eyes quickly went to the hand over his and he pulled it away slowly flexing that hand.
"Preppy girls really are a pain. Your mom was one." He tried to chuckle.

Lily pressed her thumb into Devon's palm gently as he flexed his hand before removing it quickly to her lap.
"The preppy girls gave me trouble when I was in school too," Lily said, leaning back in her seat. "Don't let them get to you. They'll be working for you someday if you keep your nose to the grindstone."

"Oh I know that." Abby giggled

"Well, good that you know that. I had a hard time believing it when I was your age, but it's true." The librarian glanced sidelong at Devon, making sure he was okay. Pity was something she'd never thought she could feel for this man, but she did.

ooc-Well, God knows who else demands the attention of the charismatic charmer at any one time so I thought maybe it'd be better if I left instead. Great job pretending I'm not there in the chat, though! (Y)

They arrived back at his apartment. He was no longer tense but needed a drink and a smoke. "Ok ladies get down quickly and into apartment. Lock up. Let no one in."

Lily stepped out of the car and put a hand on Abigail's shoulder, steering her into the building and looking over her shoulder at the lawyer. Now that he was no longer with them, she was sort of at a loss for words.

"So, this is your dad's weekend for visitation, huh?" she asked awkwardly.

ooc- You're just fucking unbelievable. Go check your mail.

"No." Abby answered glancing back at her dad's car as he drove off. "Mom doesn't know yet." She kept walking with Lily. "We not allowed to have weekends. You're different." She said changing subject.

"I see..." She raised her eyebrow, concerned, but said nothing. "I'm different? How?"

IC: "He'd never leave me with a girl." She said shrugging as they entered apartment.

"Why's that?" Lily frowned. He certainly had an odd way of parenting...

ooc-What the fuck is your problem?

"He doesn't trust them. I guess he trusts you enough."

"Well, I guess I feel honored, then." Lily let Abigail lead her up to the lawyer's apartment and sat down on the couch. "So...wanna watch a movie while we wait for your dad?"

She nodded, "So you're just a client?"

She smiled and got on her knees in front of the movies to pick one out.
"Yeah, just a client; that's all. What movie would you like to watch?" Lily would prefer to keep her personal relationship with Devon out of conversation with the daughter.

"Any movie would do." Abby said "He can be cocky and an ass but he sure is the best Dad ever and a good man." She sighed, "But he's a good man."

"Kiss your mother with that mouth?" Lily asked, picking out a movie and popping it in. "I have no doubt he's a good dad." Doubts about him being a good man, she did have and so avoided addressing the topic.

"Oh my mother is worse, as for my dad it's true." She giggled

"I see..." The librarian wasn't quite comfortable discussing Devon's marital problems. Instead, she slid onto the couch next to Abigail and started the movie.
